Re: Two Long Years of Gathering Parts - AR15 Build
I was able to locate emails/receipts for everything except the upper and lower which I have to go on memory for since the seller(s) have since deleted the ads and/or we negotiated on prices.
I wasn't trying to build the least expensive AR possible - I DID however try to pay the lowest price I could for the parts I wanted to use and in most cases I accomplished that. Seeking used parts would have lowered the cost - maybe - IF I could even find them.
$300.00* (new) - Upper - Palmetto State Armory 1:7 twist
(*99% certain this price is correct - I recall it being the same price as buying new online, but with the added bonus of buying FTF cash)
$100.00** (used) - Lower - Del-Ton - already had LPK (minus trigger group) installed (**I recall placing a WTB ad offering $100 for a lower - I think that's what I paid)
$109.00 (new) - BCG - PSA Premium Full Auto BCG Item #8779
$38.21 (new) - Charging handle - BCM Gunfighter "medium" latch
$59.99 (new) - Buffer Tube Kit - Spikes Tactical milspec tube with ST-T2 heavy buffer
$62.00 (new) - Trigger - Rock River Arms National Match 2-Stage trigger
FREE*** (new) - Stock - Mission First Tactical Minimalist stock (***generously donated by a forum member)
$84.00 (new) - Forearm - YHM Todd Jarrett Competition Series (carbine cutout - YHM-5002)
FREE*** (new) - Rear BUIS - Magpul MBUS (***generously donated by a forum member)
$753 Total to date
$61 estimated price (using the lowest/sale prices I have seen) of the 2 donated items would bring the total to $814

It's not a real gun until it is sitting on a pile of driveway rocks...

EM, glad it's coming together. It won't be long now. Do you have a supply of mags & ammo yet?

Re: Two Long Years of Gathering Parts - AR15 Build
Mags were stockpiled long ago.
Ammo I'm working on. 3,000 rds just doesn't seem like enough after seeing what happened during the big panic.
Ammo is purchased much the same way as this build. I can't afford friggin' $400 for a case, so I buy a box here and there when I can.
This will be my second 5.56 carbine.
My first is a RRA assembled upper "kit" mated to an Anvil Arms PAFOA engraved lower.
I also have a polymer lower that I will be using to make a dedicated 22LR AR. I've been slapping a Chiappa 22 upper on/off my other lower for the last few years and I'm tired of doing that - and hate how filthy the 22 ammo gets my lower.
Pretty soon I will finally have three complete AR15 carbines in total.
And looking to the future I can see a 9mm AR15 being added as well. That isn't going to happen any time soon though.
Funny - I tend to like AK47s more, but the "build factor" makes it easier to accumulate AR15s.Last edited by Emptymag; December 27th, 2015 at 12:45 PM. Reason: spelling

Re: Two Long Years of Gathering Parts - AR15 Build
I used one of the Mission First Tactical (MFT) stocks, just like yours, on my daughters rifle I built. To finish it, I added some braided 550 cord. Let me see if I can find a photo. It's a cool way to finish off this stock. She likes purple so I did hers in that color.
I really like this stock, doesn't rattle and the rubber recoil pad doesn't slip.
