Default Swiss K-31 for Deer hunting

    Keystoners:
I plan to use my Swiss K-31, open sights, for Deer in Vermont this year. Anyone have experience hunting with a Swiss K-31? I have Tikkas and Brownings available but simply admire the K-31. I'm stocked up on 7.5 mm x 55 hunting ammo. Comments appreciated... Shrubdog.

All I can tell you is:
    1. The round is potent enough.
    2. Iron sights will get you 4" groups at 200yds.

I hunt with an 8mm mauser. I have also used my enfeild. My brother got one with an m-44.

As long as you have soft-point ammo I think it'll be a hell of a deer rifle. Heavy to carry around, but it'll do the trick.

    Good luck, shoot straight.

yup no reason it wouldn't work as long as you are comfortable shooting it and can shoot it accurately then you'll be fine.

keep in mind that an extra pound or two will feel like an extra 100 - 200 by the time the walking is done!
The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.

Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Suck it up soldier! The Swiss did before they surplused all those K31s.

    Dear Keystone Brothers:
I hate to see you folks argue over the strength, endurance and war history of the Swiss citizens because of my question. I will be the one to try to suck it up and carry the K 31 around with the help of the original sling. If I wimp out, I'll switch to my Tikka T-3 Lite. THANK YOU for your advice, I'm looking forward to letting the K 31 display its power and accuracy in the field on a Vermont deer hunt in November. That gun is such a hoot! Shrubdog.

That gun can't weigh more than my scoped Enfield No4. rifle, and I've hunted with that gun many times. Unfortunately I haven't killed a deer with it yet but, I missed a 10 point with its cousin, a No5 jungle carbine a couple years ago. Lets just say that I won't be taking any more running shots at 90 yards with open sights. Can you say " lead em first chump?"...All three shots were 4 feet behind that deer. I can still hear him laughing!

Running shots with a bolt action? Maybe the deer was laughing, but I'd be terrified of being in the woods at the same time with you.

But they carried it on patrols through the mountains. Basically it was like deer hunting but the horns were twisted into swasticas.
