Re: Trump and Guns
Absolute nonsense.
Obama and Pelosi were a lot more politically savy. They knew two things damn well:
1. Government Health Care and 2A are party line issues.
2. No total Congressional majority survives the first election. Economy be damned.
They knew this. Health Care or AWB? They had to pick one. They picked Government control of Health Care.
Taxes, economy, these are things that can be negotiated in 2018 when Republicans are shaking in their boots and unwilling to take a stand because they are up for election. These are things that can be negotiated in 2019 after we have losses in both houses of Congress. And we will lose seats in both houses of Congress, regardless of economy (although bad economy will make the losses worse of course).
Liberating 2A laws?
You need at least seven of the eight planets (is that the current snowflake count?) in alignment to get that shit done. That is THIS YEAR. And we may not see that alignment again for a long, long time.
Sorry, Scruff, you are a good dude but wrong on this one. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. Even if we get another R president and congress, the president is not going to be a champion of gun rights. The only things Bush 1 and 2 did was damage gun rights further. Regan is sort of a complicated issue with the FOPA but he also banned imports and is a net negative.
This is it. 2017 or bust.

Re: Trump and Guns
Gun owners are fucking cynical pricks. Everything is bad. Aimed at hurting them in some way. There is a state law bill that decriminalizes drawing your gun and not shooting. All the gun owners are saying it's horrible.
"You pull your gun you better shoot to kill. Shoot to stop the threat. Be willing to shoot or leave it in the damned holster".
Never mind most defensive uses a shot is never fired.
Shit gets so ingrained

Re: Trump and Guns
Say it again Mitch, gun owners are fucking cynical pricks. They want it all and they want it now. The liberals will take a little at a time until they have full control and then the people say "how did that happen?"

Re: Trump and Guns
Want it all? A little at a time? We don't get shit on the federal level. Something gets worse every year, "a little at a time." The only good thing that has happened since the 80s is the AWB was NOT renewed. In other words, something bad did not happen.
This is like two guys stranded on the moon and one says, "Hey, we're going to take water from the first stream we find. Don't give me that crap about holding out for a really nice river with a waterfall." THERE IS NO WATER.
We need to take whatever we can get, because we aint getting no more. If it's only a little, then it's only a little. But it won't be a little at a time. Because we aint getting shit after this. It doesn't work that way. We have some chances on the state level, but we never gain ground on the federal level. We simply cheer the few times we manage to fight off new restrictions. This is our one chance.

Re: Trump and Guns
Holy shit! We've been winning for fucking years! Think a little. And with scotus maybe getting some decent judges to replace the shit?
A president and his family openly and unequivocally pro Second Amendment? What are you guys going on about?
Hey. Sandy- Fucking - Hook.
We didn't get massacred. Imagine that shit sandwich in the mid nineties.
The fight is never ending. Just like GW said about the war on terror. But everyone gets gutless at the sight of the first body bag. Buck up

Re: Trump and Guns
Won what? The one example you gave is something bad not happening. Yippie! What did we get? NOTHING. We haven't won shit on the federal level. Not a damn thing. Things have gotten worse with every presidency since the 80s. Including the 80s!
YES. Trump is the answer. I agree. He is the answer NOW. The window is very fucking small. If he doesn't get anything done this year on 2A, mark my words, in four years most of you will be talking about him like you talked about Corbet. "Oh, he didn't end the PSP database."
Because 2A is NOT happening 2018 to 2118 in all likelihood.

Re: Trump and Guns
Yeah you got me there. But I'm realistic. We can possibly get national reciprocity and suppressors. Gun free zones? Doubtful. Repeal the NFA or much else? Doubtful. Half this country is socialist or communist assholes.
All those that were saying Trump was going to 180 or was in it so Hillary would win well this harping about nothing being done sounds the same. The glass is half empty.
What about all the state wins ? They count for nothing?

Re: Trump and Guns
I'll take anything!
We need to keep the pressure on him and his son in a friendly, appreciative manner. I haven't contacted his son yet but I am going to start. I'm not going to call him, he is not a politician and I think that is inappropriate. But I will send him some gentle nudging emails and snail mail and see what his response is. I certainly don't want to annoy him. I hope both he and Dad realize what I, Obama, and even Pelosi realized, 2017 is it. I don't care if you have to walk and chew gum at the same time, please get us something.

Re: Trump and Guns
But that's the point. DJT is now president of a government which does infringe on the Second Amendment; his promise is hollow, for it is demonstrably untrue.
Specifically, to start, I advocate for the infringements on suppressors and shotgun and rifle barrel length to be ABOLISHED and an end to all BATFE taxes, tax stamps, etc.
Abolish the prohibition/hurdles to ownership of fully automatic weapons.
What is good for the GUBMINT and POLICE is good for CITIZENS.
That's where I'd start.
I find it interesting (and ironic) that a poster (yours truly) faces more of a call for specificity than the president of the United States when he addresses a convention of the NRA.
Amazing.
But guess what.
I just provided you with more specificity than DJT did in his NRA speech.
Mull on that one for a minute.
