My 2 cents. IMHO the rep system was originally used to provide recognition to someone who provided gun related knowledge to another member in the need of same. In that vein, it took a heck of a lot of posts and time on the forum to gather that "worthy" rep.

Unfortunately, after 9 years most of the activity on this forum has became something loosely related to guns or not at all. Weird news, jokes, and theme threads has become the stuff that people post and get rep for. This is why rep has lost it's value.

Ah, but posts in the lounge aren't counted. Therefore it can be assumed that someone with a higher post count has actually contributed more to the site. It is also entirely possible that your count including lounge posts is higher than his.

This rep system keeps getting more convoluted. I think it should just be disabled and done away with entirely.
