Re: Moving to Pike in January
Where on 739 are you going to be (approximately, not detailed)? The new range is just up the road across from Failte's restaurant.

I am going to be a little bit before Silver Lake Road closer to the river. Looks like it will be real close

Re: Moving to Pike in January
If you're before silver lake road you could probably shoot in your yard. There isn't much out that way if I recall I'll have to pay attention when I drive home

Re: Moving to Pike in January
I was up there a week or two ago and I thought I saw some houses behind mine back in the woods. I will have to take a better look in the next few weeks when I get up there.

Re: Moving to Pike in January
Welcome to PA!
Anyone else remember the welcome to PA signs quite awhile back? "America Starts Here"
We've been here 10 years and never looked back. Look fwd to meeting you at our local range (can't believe I'm saying OUR local range).
Grew up in Bergen Co. NJ. Moved here from Orange Co. NY.
The biggest adjustment was/is getting used to driving everywhere; my wife always says if it's under 20 minutes or 20 miles it is local.
Once again, welcome aboard

Re: Moving to Pike in January
Good input from everyone here. Like many of us on the forum in this section, I'm also a NJ transplant, and not looking back. Every now and then, we hold a 'PAFOA Meet & Greet' usually at Gold Key Lake coordinated by Snert, so keep your eyes peeled. If you need any help settling in, let us know, or send a PM and we can arrange to meet up and I'll take you for an informal guided tour so you can get the lay of the land.
Ditto the pizza recommendation.
Don't forget Joe at Keystone Arms and Mark at Lake Wallenpaupack.
LTCF from Pike County Sheriff's Dept. should take less than 2 weeks.

Re: Moving to Pike in January
Thanks for the welcome! I am sure I will run into you all at the local ranges. I will also keep an eye out for the Meet & Greets. I don't know anyone on this side of PA so I will definitely need to find some people to go shoot with. I also have to find the local chapter for the Marine Corps League. Usually a bunch of people there are shooters too.
I might take you up on that tour seeing as I have two months before I start work after I move in and I am going to be really bored.

Re: Moving to Pike in January
The marine corps league is a bunch of seasoned marines to say the least. They are much older and may not really shoot. Where are you going to be working? Just seperating from the corps?

Re: Moving to Pike in January
I got out of the Corps about four years ago and went to school/lived off the GI bill. Over the summer I worked for Verizon and they re-hired me to start this spring at a pretty nice salary so I will be working for them in NJ. Best part is my hours are offset so I miss all the traffic
