Bases were really thick on him. Neck was swollen up as well. Shot him at 15 yards with a crossbow. He was walking with his head up smelling for does. Never paid any attention to me.

    Was that shot placement intentional?

    Of course it was !
No I was aiming shoulder at what I estimated 25 yards. Shot him in the spine at 15 yards. He dropped in his tracks. If your going to hit somewhere other than where your aiming on a deer it cant hurt to hit the spine, lol

Friday was my last day to hunt regular archery season. Evening was very cold, I was in a high stand out in the open woods where I had good shooting lanes, but was exposed to the wind. Around 4:50, after not seeing anything coming through the open woods I climbed down and moved to a lower stand in the thick stuff, more sheltered from the wind. Around 5:15 a doe came through with this 9 point following her. Made a successful shot at around 30 yards.
    2017 Archery:
    81.5 hours in a treestand
    2 legal bucks seen
1 shot opportunity, 1 dead deer
    39 deer seen in stand.

After dragging him out, I think he was about 487 pounds when I got him into the trunk.
I’m honestly not sure, I don’t have a scale, I’ll have to get one.

I’m lucky to be able to earn comp time at my job, I save my hours and take off the first two weeks of November. So between my days off, after work, and November I rack up the hours.

On a whim, I decided to take the kayak and Ithaca 37 out for a ride before work this morning.

With a tremendous amount of luck, I got my first goose ever. Banded one too.

Nice! I've been a wing hunter for quite some time and have only bagged two banded geese and here you get one right off the bat.
Five more like that and you can make snack sticks!
