Re: Library Sportsman
Pros:
Really nice indoor pistol range. Computer controlled target trollies, heated, well vented, large ready room, etc.
Verry close to much of the South Hills. Under 15 min from Lebo, Upper St. Clair, Bethel, etc.
Very active trap/skeet club. They have open shoots every Thurs. if I remember correctly (don't shoot trap/skeet)
Club facilities are well maintained and modern.
Sponsorship is not required to apply for membership.
Cons:
A bit expensive compared to most clubs around Western PA - $80 a year and $80 initiation fee
Rifle range is either 50 or 100 yards. No setting your own up at 25, 75, etc.
Rules are a bit restrictive (very old school 'sportsman' club type)
- no practical shooting
- 5 round limit in a mag (rifle or pistol)
- no silhouette targets
- no carrying (CC or OC) at the club
The club is really focused on skeet/trap, and it shows in some of the rules. But, I can get there in 10 min. from the house, so I put up with it for the convenience of it being so close to home for me. I can run out anytime, run off some rounds, and be back in less than an hour if need be. Means I get to shoot once or twice a week instead of making a 4 hour round trip once a month.

Re: Library Sportsman
No carrying and 5 round mag limit. Wow. I don't think I'm interested. Thanks for the info.

Re: Library Sportsman
Kinda ridiculous, huh.
Like I said, it affords me the ability to shoot literally whenever I want. Luckily, I have other places to shoot as well, they're just further away.
Where are you located that you're looking into Library? If it's a location thing, there are a few others semi-local to the South Hills. They all have they're pros and cons though...

I'm right in the South Hills.

Re: Library Sportsman
I just joined a few months ago.
As correctly stated there is no "tactical" shooting allowed. (I call it practical).
No human targets, only bulls eye. Again, silly, as I bet most members carry.
Five round limit in mag is silly, but they are the cheapest and closest to me.
Eighty bucks a year is a good deal for what you get. In Ohio the range I belonged to was $250 a year.
I have to plans to suggest they change their rules at a meeting sometime in the future.
