Gander Mountain
Recently I have been going to Gander mountain a lot cc and never had an issue.
One day a couple weeks ago I wanted to bring my Glock in for some gunsmith work so I put it in the hardside case with loaded mags next to it but not in the gun and the chamber clear of any rounds. I walked in mind you I was also cc my 357 at the time. The girl at the desk says to me Excuse me sir but is that a pistol in that case. I replied yes it is (thinking to myself wonder what her first hint was th glock logo on the entire side of the case or the warning sticker for children on the other side of the case.) She then tells me that I would need an escort to bring it back to the gunsmith. I looked at her like she had two heads and said even if I show you that I have a LTFA to this she replied it is company policy. So I complied. When my escort arrived it was an associate I had dealt with before. He looked at me and smiled because he knew I was cc as well. He told me that there policy is the employee must carry the weapon and it must be free of any ammunition while doing so. we got a bag and took the bullets from the magazines and placed them in the bag then he carried the box and the bag in separate hands back to the shop to work on my issue. I expressed to him my concern of this policy infringing on my rights and circumventing the laws of the state.
At that time he informed me he himself was upset with the policy as he has an LTFA and cannot carry at work however the customers can. I said really that is strange as I just needed an escort to get in. He informed me it was because it was obvious it was a gun case and a pistol.
About a week or so later they put up a new sign on the door that reads ALL Firearms and Bombs must be checked at front desk then in small print it says this does not apply to CCW permit holders. However PA does not issue a CCW it only issues a LTFA.
Humm maybe if I print up my own CCW it would get me around all this confusion as it did not say that the CCW had to be from any particular issuing authority.
What about if we had some printed up from the PFOA Might be interesting to see the reaction of that among those that would twist the rules.
They also have a policy that they have to walk you out with any new gun purchases. I wonder if i buy another gun and ammo from them if I could simply load it right there and tuck it in my belt and cover it with my shirt as I have a LTFA. then the empty box would not contain a firearm when I left the store at all. Therefore omitting the need for an escort out of the store after purchasing a weapon especially if I would only just be doing the same thing in the car anyhow to go and carry it.Last edited by Kevin3824; August 5th, 2008 at 03:29 AM.

Re: Gander Mountain
i worked for GM for 3.5 years. when i first started working there the in 2001, the customer could just walk in with there firearm in a case without being escorted by an employee. aboout a year later there was an incident where a customer brought a loaded firearm in to sell and a parttime sales associate did not check the chamber and subsequently fired the rifle into the ceiling. this happened at a GM out west in i think Ohio or Indiana. after that they started having customers show the associate at the front desk that the firearm was unloaded. then the associate would put a trigger lock on the firearm and the customer would go back to the gunsmith/firearms counter. then another incident occured where a guy was bringing in a firearm and had the lock on it and after he spoke with the gunsmith/sale associate he put the gun down on the counter and went to use the restroom. another customer came up and took the firearm and left with it. now that the associates have to walk the customers back they can now identify which guy has what gun if there are multiple firearm/people.
on a side note, never leave your firearm on the counter. either an associate might thing it was purchased and put it back in the gunsmith room, or another customer will pick it up while your looking at other firearms.Μολὼν λαβέ

Re: Gander Mountain
I personally have no issues with their policies, as there are a few ignorant and (need I say it) irresponsible gun owners out there. They support my right to CC (or even OC in a proper holster) in their store in Harrisburg or their store in York as long as I have my LTCF.
It is private property. I respect that, as if someone I didn't personally know was on my private property, I'd probably prefer they weren't carrying.
Just my chime-in.
