Default Washington County Tactical Range now taking members

We are now accepting membership applications for 2016 year. This is your one chance to be a “Founding Member” of Washington County Tactical Range. Fill out the below form and return it with your check to:

Washington County Tactical Range Membership Application.pdf

Membership prices are $195 per year. Spouse's receive a 50% discount on memberships and children between 16 and 18 are $25 per. No one under 16 is allowed on property. We are limiting the number of members for 2016. Members in good standing will always be able to renew each year before new members are allowed to join. Once we receive your payment, we will mail you back a membership packet.

We have designed this range for shooters that want to use their AR's and handguns as they were meant to be shot in real-world applications: from rapid-fire AR shooting to quick-draw pistol shooting to rifle & pistol transition drills (move and shoot) using paper targets or bowling pins or even electronic targets capable of timing your shooting down to 4-decimals places of a second. We will provide touch-screen laptops to control the devices or you can simply use your smart phone. It's a rather remarkable system and is very easy to setup and change scenarios (how many shots does it take to knock down the target, where on the target is it required to hit before target drops, how many targets will pop-up at a time, etc). The 7-Target electronic pop-up system we purchased from www.AutoTargets.com will arrive in February-2016 and will immediately be available to use by our members. Here's a quick video of me shooting a scenario that requires a single shot to the chest to drop the target and runs for 10 seconds:

We have designed four ranges at this facility:

    • 33-yard (100 feet x 50 feet) flat pistol range: Construction began in Oct, 2015 and will be completed by Dec 31st, 2015. Range will allow traditional pistol shooting, quick draw, rifle and pistol transition drills (move and shoot). Targets will include paper targets, bowling pins, and 2 electronic targets. Area will have 25’ covered shooting area and 25’ uncovered.
    • 50-yard rapid-fire range: Completed. This area has 25-foot covered shooting area and 25 feet uncovered. This area allows you to shoot machine guns, weapons with slide-fire stocks, or simply "how fast can I pull the trigger on my AR or pistol", plus rifle and pistol transition drills (move and shoot).
    • 100-yard archery range: Construction began in Oct, 2015 and will be completed by Dec 31st, 2015. Range will have area for tree stands for realistic training plus life-size buck, turkey, bear, groundhog targets.
    • 165-yard AR Tactical Range: Construction began in Oct, 2015 and will be completed by Dec 31st, 2015. Range has two lanes, one with 8" metal targets and one with 5 computer-controlled popup targets placed at 50, 75, 100, 125, 165 yards. Only AR-15's chambered in 5.56 are allowed.

    Basic rules of the range:

    • No shooting before 10am and shooting ends at sunset. (Range is open 364 days a day, closed for Christmas)
    • Only paper targets or bowling pins can be brought onto range, so no metal, no exploding targets, nor stuff you want to shoot (printers, computers) are allowed.
    • No one under 16 years old is permitted on range. This is a requirement of our insurance policy.
    • Once a month, a member is allowed to being a non-member to use the range at no cost.
    • Members must sign in upon arriving and to sign in non-members plus have them sign a release form. You do not need to sign out.
    • The electronic gate can be accessed either by security code at the keypad or remote key-fob (extra $30 per year)
    • Absolutely no picking up brass that you didn't shoot, in other words, no range rats picking up other peoples brass to sell.
    • Your ammo, your guns, your targets. We do not require that you purchase anything from us.
    • No limit on number of rounds in magazines or rate of fire.
    • Clean up after yourself.

    Amenities:

    • Two picnic tables
    • Heavy duty grill
    • Two parking lots
    • Members receive a 10% discount on machine gun rentals

While everything in this post is exactly what we planned, sometimes unforeseen things can happen which will force us to make adjustments to our grand plan, so please keep that in mind for 2016.

    Any questions, just ask.

Just a few questions: will the ranges accommodate several shooters at a time? Basically what if 50 members show up?
It says once a month I can bring a guest for free. What is the fee if I bring a guest more often?

    Thanks, Chris

It says clean up after yourself but also says not to pick up left over brass. Why? What difference does it make who does the clean up? I love to be able to shoot stuff other than paper targets but why just bowling pins? They are not exactly household items, widely available or cheap.

    Good Question:

    • 33-yard (100 feet x 50 feet) flat pistol range: Easily could handle 5+ shooters at a time.
    • 50-yard rapid-fire range: Easily could handle 5+ shooters at a time.
    • 100-yard archery range: Easily could handle 5+ shooters at a time.
    • 165-yard AR Tactical Range: Initially two lanes with one lane with metal 8" targets and one lane with 5 electronic targets will be built with two benches. IF people use it, we will continue to add additional lanes with additional targets. If members are waiting to use this range, we will have to implementing a time limit, probably 1 hour, then the next group can us it for an hour, etc.

The two main questions of building such an unique range is, "How many members will join and how many members can we accommodate?" The next 30 days will tell us how many members join, but more importantly how many members will use the range on a weekly basis? Only time will tell and we will adjust and grow the range as necessary to keep our members happy.

You can't. We purposely put this rule in place to reduce the number of non-paying shooters due to the cost of maintaining the targets and the range.

Thank you for the question, "Clean up after yourself" means don't leave trash behind, like soda cans, food wrappers, trashed paper targets, empty ammo boxes, etc. We are providing the bowling pins for free and members provide their own paper targets. What other targets would you like to see?

The other part of question is IF we allow people to pickup brass from other shooters, you would be amazed how intrusive some people can be about picking up your brass the second it hits the ground, WHILE you are shooting. I been on ranges where "range rats" would scurry around the shooting benches picking up brass while people were shooting. To eliminate this, the simple rule of "Absolutely no picking up brass that you didn't shoot, in other words, no range rats picking up other peoples brass to sell" resolves this safety issue.
