    Default Revolver hunting in PA

    Hi Guys,

I have having trouble figuring this out. I know semi auto handguns are not legal to hunt with. And I know that revolvers are fine, is there a caliber restriction? I have a scoped S&W 500 (.50 CAL) I want to hunt deer with.

    Mike

You should be fine. I think all center fires are OK (but that is rifles). I would not hunt deer with anything less than a .44 mag in a revolver.

Some use a .357 but they are better men than I.

I have hunted deer and hog with my S&W 686 6 inch 357 magnum no scope but Millet sights on the rear. average shots taken have been 75 yards and less and been fortunate to always harvest a deer. Desantis cross draw holster for comfort and climbing tree stands but most shots taken at ground level. Good Luck Hunting

I hunt with scoped Ruger Super Redhawk in .44 Magnum or a scoped T/C Contender in 7-30 Waters. I also have a non-scoped Super Blackhawk in .44 Magnum and a Blackhawk in .357 Magnum.

The .357 Magnum is plenty good enough for hunting deer.

Hit it in the neck with a .357 magnum and it will drop like it has been dead for an hour.

Dan Wesson .357 when I want to get up close and personal. 180gr XHP +P does it right.

125 HydraShoks worked years ago. Unless deer have evolved more, it should still work.

My favorite hunting revolver for PA white tail is a Performance Center Smith Model 657 (.41 Mag) with a match grade slab barrel. Taken white out to 80 yards with one shot kills.
