Value of an 8mm Mauser
I have a friend who is looking to sell his 8mm Mauser. Is there anywhere you guys can steer me to find a value on his gun? Or is there a generalized price range you can give me? I now nothing about these kind of guns so any help is greatly appreciated.

You need to supply us with more info, is it German, Yugo, Czech, etc, full length or carbine, original military or sporterized plus condition.

Re: Value of an 8mm Mauser
if you just want an 8mm (7.92mm x 57mm to be accurate IIRC) Mauser style you should be able to get them for well below 200.00 w/ bayonet (Yugo M48 still in Cosmo)
If you are interested in a Mauser style modern - Ruger still uses the Mauser style action in their M77 series, these are chambered in most modern rounds
If you want a real German WW2 style Mauser (K98) you are looking at 250 - 500 for a shooter grade w/ nice wood... There are a LOT of variants out there as well
Overall they are good rifles, they kick pretty hard but they are also fun on the range... ammo isn't to hard to find yet but its getting worse as time goes on just like everything else. Luckily with it being a bolt you'll go through ammo much slower so several hundred rounds will keep you covered for a while.
Its a fun gun but you won't shoot it that often (at least I don't shoot mine that often) the recoil makes it unpleasant to shoot (metal butt plate)The first vehicles normally on the scene of a crime are ambulances and police cruisers. If you are armed you have a chance to decide who gets transported in which vehicle, if you are not armed then that decision is made for you.
Be prepared, because someone else already is and no one knows their intent except them.

Re: Value of an 8mm Mauser
I picked up a K98 for $230 and a Yugo 24/47 for around $160. If you want a great shooter and a great gun for the money, the Yugo is an awesome gun. You can get them from JGSales but it has been the most cosmoline saturated rifle I have ever received.

Can't be any worse than a Yugo SKS 59/66 - I almost think they used Cosmoline instead of Steel to build them. My Yugo M48 wasn't that bad in the Cosmo Department. I guess the former Yugoslavia's motto was "When all else fails Cosmoline it, and if it doesn't fail, Cosmoline it anyway"

Re: Value of an 8mm Mauser
Well, the good news is that after you get it cleaned up, you realize you have what looks like a new rifle. Pick up some surplus Yugo ammo and shoot her until you melt the hidden cosmo out of her.
Oh, I was wrong. Those Yugo 24/47s are only $129. They are $100 for the gun and $29 for all the cosmo.
