Question Re: Value of an 8mm Mauser

Y'all have a very interesting group of forums. Live in western TN. Made first gun purchase in Oct. '07 (and I'm 53: late-bloomer).
I bumped into this website again by chance. Posted again tonight, having forgotten about this previous, most now deleted.
Mini 14, 30, SKS and two MN 44s.

I can help you get information on the rifle.. If you hold the rifle itself barrel faceing away from you.. Left side of the receiver you should see a string of numbers.. which is the serial number.. if its german.. you should also see an eagle with the numbers.. 135 i belive.. its a military firing proof mark.. when you should also see a model number.. as on mine it says.. Mod 98 on the left side of the rifle. next to the intereral magizine.. the top of the receiver.. just past the bolt housing. should have a factory code. mine is stamped BCD at the top of receiver. at the bottom of the receiver code is the Year.. Mine is stamped 4. You will also see various models with different markings in general places. it all depends on your factory code.. i belive an S125 is the first year the mauser entered production in 1935 and would be worth some serious money in any decent condition.. all in all depends on what matches on the rifle.. i belive mine was a mix matched by an arsenal in germany right after the war.. reason i think that is.. the magizine floor plate is stamped GERMANY is english. but the rest of the rifle matches itself. mine is not a russian capture.. I have fallen in love with these rifles and i personally will not ever sell my german made ww2 mauser.. Now if you have pictures we can deffinatly try to tell you what the make and model of your mauser. as i belive the OP believed he as a german mauser. Pictures will help.

    Also like others said.

    The serial number
    Model number
factory code/ year marking *anything stamped on the receiver*
ETC things like this will help.. hopefully i can help you out.. and most of all PICTURES PLEASE!!! i love mausers and enjoy shooting them! m.ine is sighted in to about 300 yards accurately so far.. cant wait for deer season!. cant wait to take this old girl out for some huntin! hehehehe

You don't suppose that ammo which will fire is available at $.18/round, as with some MN ammo? Samco sells 7mm ammo for the classic Spanish Mauser at that price, but nobody has it that cheap for the 8mm.

A lady in a music group with my wife has an authentic German Mauser in her safe, but don't know the condition.
She and her husband told me that it was brought back from western/central Europe by her father at the end of the war, and has needed cleaning for a long time. Doubt that they want to sell it, as it might be a personal momento, I suppose-they have not indicated any interest in selling.
Even people who do not shoot guns are amazingly stubborn, although they have no interest in using what they have. But it would be waste of my money for plinking.
an unmolested rifle from ww2 would be worth some serious mulah.. if she cleaned up well and didnt show alot of rust or wear on the bore she might be worth anywhere from 2 grand up.. all depends on the condition.. CLEANING is needed stat!!!!! Not to hard to take down either.. if i can do it with a spoon and a knife.. it can easily done lol!!

These rifles make great shooters but are deffinatly not cost effective.. which is why my best friend/ gunsmith reloads for me!!! made me some nice handloads pretty close to military spec. Thanks to help from others here as well.. Great forum we have here

Between $60 and $5000. Depends if it's a mis-matched Turk or a mint K98 sniper. Try looking it up on the gun auctions. gunbroker, auction arms. that will give you a price. IMO the high end price.

Question Re: Value of an 8mm Mauser

Curious about German Mauser which was brought from the combat theater in WW2 by an American soldier. What if it is in good condition?

We are visiting a couple tomorrow night but they are not gun enthusiasts- indifferent. The lady's father brought it back at the end of the war.

They did not even respond to an offer to clean the rifle for them.
I could suggest a possible value, but doubt that they will bring it up and seem quite indifferent or uninterested in guns.

I have a friend from Essen, Germany (was Germany's industrial {& weapons, i.e. Krupp} heartland) whose father was based in Finland in WW2 (right-on the OTHER side). Ralf has told me that a really nice authentic German Mauser (not found by Soviets) would be rather expensive.
Were all German Ms built in "Oberndorf am Neckar"? If so, it's probably just upstream, not far from Heidelberg.

sounds like you have a WW1 mauser, which, if in original condition, is worth 2-3X what a 2nd war original gun is worth, in general. we need a picture (several) to see how it is equipped and if it is still original. Geweher98 would be the probable designation. see this page for reference:
