SCOTIA RANGE IS OPEN!!!! SGL176
Howdy all!
I know it was discussed in the other thread but for those that have not been following it.
State Game Lands #176 Firearms Range at Scotia is now OPEN for business!
Posted hours are as follows:
Week days 0800-2000
Weekends 1200-2000
There have been changes to the target holders and the distances of the aux ranges.
There are no longer mounds of dirt in front of the target holders and the target holders are all made of wood now, same design as the rifle range inside the gate. There are PVC pipes in the ground to place the holders in and cardboard attached to them.
All of the back stops have been raised substantially and still need to be seeded for grass but we've been told this will happen later this summer.
Over all I would said I am very happy with the improvements that came along with the lead mitigation that has gone on. Now I just have to make it there during a time that the gate is open so I can see what they did to the other ranges!
Well guys... it's time for a get together up here again! Ideas anyone?
Cheers,
josh

Re: SCOTIA RANGE IS OPEN!!!! SGL176
I spent about an hour and a half out on the aux. range today. Let me just say one thing: it felt really good to go shooting again!
I shot pretty well with my AR-15, but this summer's lack of trigger time on my M&P9 definitely shown through. My shot pattern with the pistol was very consistent, but unfortunately it was consistently low and to the left. If I'm not feeling too lazy later tonight, I'll post pictures of my target.
Looking forward to getting lots of trigger time in before winter.

Re: SCOTIA RANGE IS OPEN!!!! SGL176
Sometime in Aug or Sept would be great, I got several new builds that I need to check out.
However, Aug 15, 16, and maybe 17 is out for me (big family garage sale at my house). However, that may be good for you guys too, I will have a bunch, and I mean a bunch of guns and ammo for sale. I have been asked to sell a persons collection for him (6 handguns, 2 shotguns, 3 rifles, ammo, accessories) plus the guns and reloading stuff I have. I will be making a formal thread here next week also. This is just an appetizer.
Here's what I have right now. Once I get them graded (using the Blue Book of Gun Values), priced and pics; I will be putting them in the classifieds:
Taurus 94, 22LR, 2", Blue
Taurus 617CH, 357Mag, 2", Blue, Ported, concealed Hammer
Ruger, Super Single Six, 22LR/22Mag, 4 5/8, Blue, w/the extra cylinder
S&W 586, 357Mag, 6", Nickel, -2 model, SA trigger job
S&W 17, 22LR, K22 Masterpiece, 6", Blue
Colt, 1991A1, 45ACP, Gov't Model, 5", Blue
Rem 870, 12ga, 18", parkerized, Cyl choke
Mossberg 500AT, 12ga, 28", Blue, wood hardward
Marlin 60, 22LR, Blue, w/scope
Marlin 30A, 30-30Win, Blue, w/scope
Marlin 9, 9mm, Blue, extra mag (this is the Camp Carbine)
Lots of 38, 357, 45, 22 ammo, accessories, etc.
All will be in the garage sale unless some get sold prior.
That's why I can't make it on the 15, 16, 17 (well maybe the 17th if I don't stay open to sell guns)Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Re: SCOTIA RANGE IS OPEN!!!! SGL176
There is a member here (bloomautomatic) who makes golf ball launchers that attach to the standard grenade launchers on a number of rifles (SKS, AR15, etc). All you do is attach the launcher, load in a golf ball, chamber a blank cartridge, and fire away! ScoutJoe brought one to the last group shoot that attached to a Yugo SKS; it was tons of fun!
