Gun show loopholes
All we seem to hear about in the news is the anti-gunners want to close gun show loopholes. What are they talking about.
Thanks for an enlightening me.

Re: Gun show loopholes
In some states you don't need a background check for gun show (or private F2F) purchases. In PA non-dealers can buy and sell long guns at gun shows if they don't have any reason to expect the buyer is not a prohibited person (really anywhere F2F, but that wouldn't fit the loop-hole rhetoric.) I'm not sure what states allow purchases of handguns at gun shows without some sort of background check, but even if there's just one that's enough for the anti-gunners to generalize that the entire country is roaming with gun totin' mental patients and violent felons who bought weapons of mass destruction at a gun show.

Re: Gun show loopholes
I don't know any hard-core anti gunners, but I've been trying to figure out whether or not
buying old guns at a show using my C&R instead of PICS would be part of this "loophole"???
I'm guessing that would depend on just how l0opy an anti we're discussing...

Re: Gun show loopholes
I would not think that a C&R purchase would count as a loophole. There is still some paperwork and records, right?
You did a background check to get the license, and I assume it expires at some point. Would it be revoked if you got a felonious? So if you have a valid license, you should be clear.

Re: Gun show loopholes
The way antis lie about numbers most every gun sale uses some sort of loophole.

Re: Gun show loopholes
When you have a C&R you went through the background checks to get it. Not sure if an FFL has more extensive checks but would doubt it. Here in Texas (at least in the 90s haven't heard of any changes) you can buy a handgun face to face, no FFL needed. And as such you can buy a handgun at a gun show from a private citizen, but if you buy a handgun from a dealer you go through the instant check. I believe there are limits on the number of sales you can engage in before you must become a dealer and thus get an FFL. But if you are a criminal you can buy as much as you want out of the trunk of some guys car. We did a story about that years ago. BTW that is how Michael Dell started his business, by selling computers out of the trunk of his car right here in Austin. Maybe we should arrest him on child porn charges. I sure someone has used one of his computers to distribute it. Makes as much sense as the gun store that got sued for selling a gun to a guy, who gave it to his friend, who shot a cop.
