Traffic stop. Legally owned firearm confiscated.

So you've got a license to carry a firearm, and a firearm, where is the reasonable suspicion to:
A) search your car
B) run the serial numbers against the ROS
C) confiscate said firearm

As noted above, MPOTEC ( municipal police officer training & education class) was very clear in its training about situations like this. In fact, somewhere in PAFOA is a good link to the year and maybe even the training material. Print it out, become well versed in the arguements the good people above me have put forth, and go talk to the chief, town council, and maybe even file a complaint with the DA. Remember that PA law (61xx??) allows you to recover legal fees to get your firearm back, I suggest you talk to GL001 and use this to your advantage; make it hurt and teach them a lesson.

As JenG noted, this crap's got to stop. If the PASC ruled this isn't a data base it can't be used as such and this asshat just broke the law. There has to be a way to leverage events like this into another court case to get the ROS removed.

I don't understand why people are not able to get their registration and ins. card out of the glovebox before the officer even exits their vehicle.

My is kept in a zip-bag and easy to find, even if dark.

When I have firearms in my vehicle, I make every attempt not to draw attention to myself and be more cognizant of traffic signs, such as driving the speed limit and obeying the laws.

Normally I only have my carry sidearm on me. I have only been pulled over once with the officer asking that question. I had already taken the clip on holster off, and placed it in the console. When he ask the question, I told him it was in the console. He ask me to get out. I did, and closed the locked door behind me with the keys in the car. He tried to open the door, then ask me where the keys were. I told him they were in the ignition. He looked, but since he already had my information he made me stand behind my car. He gave me a ticket for the offence that I did. Then he ask me how I was getting back in the car. I said I would make a call, and get in. He laughed, and drove off. I got the emergency non-chip key from it's hiding spot, and went about my way. The first thing I always do when pulled over is lock all the doors.

I appreciate all of the advice. I have had several other interactions with police while legal carrying. I guess this will be my wake up call considering all previous incidents were fair and respected my rights while giving the officers complete confidence in their safety. I generally do act within the law and question the legitimacy of my 'offense'. I purposely keep the registration out of my glove compartment so I do not have to open it if stopped. I did not allow a search of my vehicle in totallity but did allow the officer to retrieve my weapons. I learned a lot from this incident and hope others will learn too.

i have only been carrying daily for ~1.5 decades but have luckily never had a stop that i would consider a "firearm stop" or one that escalated to that point


i certainly say this in the way a caring brother would and ask that you not take it any other way
but maybe analyze what you are doing and how you are doing it?
