500 S&W Magnum carry holster suggestions
i have a new 500 S&W magnum with a 4 inch ported barrel that i want to use as my carry gun. can any of you give a good suggestion of a carry holster for me? I'm not a hunter, and would like to carry this concealed. I'm 6'4'' tall and weigh 240 pounds so i don't have a problem hiding it on my body.

Re: 500 S&W Magnum carry holster suggestions
I thought I was peculiar given that my carry guns are frequently chambered for .41 magnum. Folks tell me that it's 'over kill' or it's just too much for defense against bi-peds.
500 mag-- well, that's a unique CC choice. You might need to look into custom holsters. You probably want a pancake style leather holster that ride high. Get a good gun belt too.
I have to ask: what kind of loads are you carrying in 500 mag that would be ideal for anti-personal?

Galco Dual Action Outdoorsman is what I get when I google it. I never really fell in love with anything by Galco though. It has good reviews though. As mentioned, dont skimp on the belt.

Re: 500 S&W Magnum carry holster suggestions
I would think seriously about this:
Over penetration is not just a concern with that gun it is an inevitably. Just remember that if you ever have to use it, you are going to be held responsible for where all the rounds go. If one were to pass through your threat and hit a bystander, your going to be responsible for it.
I'm not really trying to bust your balls about it, but that is something you should think about if you're going to use that gun for self defense.

Re: 500 S&W Magnum carry holster suggestions
Size aside, the muzzle blast from a 500 is going to deafen not only you, but everybody else within 50 yards. Especially true if your gun is ported.
No offense, but the 500 mag in an X Frame is not, and was never intended to be an anti personnel round. In the woods walking around, sure, go ahead, the 500 mag is good bear medicine. But carried for personnel protection against 2 legged predators, I have to question you motives as would any prosecutor should you have to use it.

Carrying a .500 for defense, is like buying a tractor trailer for your daily vehicle to go to the office.
Would it work? Yes.
Is it beyond stupid? Hell yes.
