Spanish .38 Special
This was passed down to me from my father. From what i cant tell its a 6 shot 4 screw Spanish copy of S&W MP with a 5 digit serial #. It appears to be well made for a Spanish copy of this type although not sure of the steel.
is this pistol safe to shoot ?......
any real value ?
the cylinder release seems to be different then most others ive seen...normal?
thanks in advance guys 382.jpg383.jpg381.jpg38.jpg382.jpg383.jpg381.jpg38.jpg

Re: Spanish .38 Special
I'm gonna guess it's a Spanish Eibar copy of a Smith. Probably from around WWII era. There were lots of different ones brought into the country back then. The cylinder release is definitely different, maybe someone with more knowledge than me about them will know more and give you a better id from that. Build quality varies on them so I would recommend taking it to a gunsmith and having it checked out before firing it. Value isn't much, maybe in the $200 dollar range tops.

Re: Spanish .38 Special
I'll second a guess that it is a Spanish Eibar. I have one in .32-20.
Eibar had a reputation for making cheap (price and quality) knockoff revolvers. You should be safe to shoot it with mild .38 loads. I do not recommend using any of the current self defense or +P loads available. As far as value, somewhere between $100 and $200.
I paid $100 for mine from a dealer and it came with a box of Remington .32-20 which normally runs $30+ per box. Don't ask why I bought it, it was one of those "hey, for that price what the hell" moments.

The steel on those Spanish copies are hit/miss..
Also, despite what may be marked on the gun - it could very well be chambered in .38 Long Colt. (.38S&W Special's shorter daddy)Last edited by knight0334; October 10th, 2015 at 01:58 PM.

Re: Spanish .38 Special
I think Eibar was the town or region in Spain. There were many small shops in Eibar , Spain turning out copies of S&W's. Some were very close and fairly good quality. Some , not so much.
