can you guy a handgun if your spouse was convicted of a crime
I was thinking of purchasing a gun, but my wife was convicted of a crime and sentenced to six months in jail. Does this now mean a gun cannot even be int the house? I was going to ask for more information but since I was here I thought I would ask here as well
me purchasing a gun has nothing to do with her crime or committing crimes

Re: can you guy a handgun if your spouse was convicted of a crime
Probably not, but it may take some extraordinary measures on your part to remain legal. Did the conviction happen in PA? Do you know what the maximum *possible* sentence was for her offense? That's more important that what her actual sentence was.
ETA - I see from your other thread that your wife is currently incarcerated. Even if her conviction is not permanently disabling, it is likely that having a "gun-free home" may be a condition of parole/probation at some point in her future. Her current situation and record of conviction should have no effect on your ability to legally purchase and possess firearms, but you may need to voluntarily waive that right for a period of time, in order for her to meet (temporary) post-release conditions placed upon her.
If her conviction triggers a permanent disability, that's where the 'extraordinary measures' may come into play. They will likely not be an option at all during parole/probation.Last edited by gnbrotz; October 6th, 2015 at 05:33 PM.

Also, if you live in Cleveland, you may be subject to different laws than the people here, on a Pennsylvania centric web site.
