On a somewhat related note, a few weeks ago, I stayed out at my buddy's cabin to do some propane line work. decided to clean my 1911 as there is no electricity there and no cell signal and nothing to do. Cleaned it with a spray we use to clean hydrogen compressors (it's what I had!) and started reassembly. That's when I realized there is not a drop of gun oil in the cabin. NONE!

But, I found a can of Pam cooking spray. I used it. Boy does that shit gum up a weapon!!! Took me an hour to get it all out when I got home. There is now a large bottle of Hoppes #9 and a big can of Remoil in my trunk waiting for next trip out there.

Very interesting indeed. A gas chromatography test would compellingly confirm this, as was mentioned in the comments on the page. Thus far I've been happiest with Seal 1 (was using FrogLube, and still will with pistols just not my AR's b/c of cold weather limitations) and see no reason to change.

I would honestly not be surprised to find out that it was mostly vegetable oil of some sort. That's what I use on my flintlock and my 1858 cap and ball revolver.

If I use this product in my AR and shoot it so it's really hot, will it smell like french fries?

No because you gotta jam some fries in the action first.

I've had the best all around luck with Ballistol. MPro7 works well as a cleaner too.

Froglube has done well with anecdotal corrosion testing by bloggers and youtubers. Fireclean has not. However both seem to be based on some sort of vegetable based oil.

Some of the numbers on the graph are not exact, so it's probably not Crisco but some similar vege oil.

I dont go in for the "OMFG REVOLUTIONARY NEW GUN OIL" bullshit such as fireclean and frog lube. I have used breakfree, weapon shield, Mpro7, and motor oil. I like the smell and consistency of Mpro7, so that is what I am currently using. I do not care for the consistency of weapon shield.

IMO, this thread should be moved to general.
