School Me on the Rossi 972
So I'm interested in entering the revolver world. I don't need anything fancy nor do I need to spend an arm and a leg to get one.
I found the Rossi 972 as my potential candidate. It has a 6" barrel and takes .357/.38 which is what I was looking for.
I know that Rossi has a history of good and bad. I have shot the snubby version of this a few years back and it wasn't bad.
What are the Pros & Cons of this (972) particular revolver? Anyone own one on this forum?
The use would be a range gun and a woods gun in one. Not for matches or anything precise.

Re: School Me on the Rossi 972
I can't say I have any experience with the 972, but I recently picked up an older Rossi M971 .357/.38 for $200 (rear sight was missing but i mounted an optic on it). I've been told, but have not confirmed, that the gun's design is based around a smith and wesson k frame. I own a few smiths and rugers and I can tell you that to me the rossi has the best trigger. One thing that isn't the best is their customer service, at least if you have an older model pistol. I believe the company is now owned by taurus.

Re: School Me on the Rossi 972
Long while back I had a 971 and 4inch tube.
CC'ed it a bit even.
It was a good gun.

They go for $350-$400 new, closer to $300 used in great shape - don't think you can go wrong. Rossi/Taurus revolvers have always served me well. You are right, they have a hit or miss reputation, but overall, I think they are a good gun for the price. I have the snubby Rossi and have never had any issues. I wouldn't hesitate buying any Rossi/Taurus revolver. Now Taurus semi's.........much less likely, would only go for 1911 or 92 version for the most part. Good luck if you decide to go for it!
