Re: Battle Packs - the Poor Man's Version
A vacuum leak happens more easily than a pressure leak. Would a vacuum tend to pull the esters out and deteriorate the propellants prematurely?

Re: Battle Packs - the Poor Man's Version
I vacuum packed some dry dog food last night.
Wonder if anyone can come up with unproven theories as to why it was a bad idea.
"The vacuum could potentially draw nutrients right out of the food, leaving it with little nutritional value." (LOL)
We keep a box of emergency pet food should we ever need to evacuate in a hurry.
I used to put a few cans of dog and cat food in as well as several of those "samples" of dry food that they hand out at pet stores.
I always forget to rotate that stuff and all of what I had packed up was "expired" by enough years that I decided to pitch it and resupply.
This time I scooped out 5 days worth of the current dry food that we just bought and vacuum packed it for the emergency stash.
I added a few cans of food that are still good until 2019 and a few of the sample packs of food as well.
The pets need food just like the guns do.
Just grab the box and go - no worries about finding suitable food after you evacuate.
Hell, if you pick the right dog food, it would feed YOU as well!
You should see some of the crazy, gourmet dog foods that are out there. We get a can for the dog as a treat now and then - there's more whole meats and veggies in a can than you find in a can of hearty soup!I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

Re: Battle Packs - the Poor Man's Version
Ammo cans are designed for long term storage in harsh conditions. That, and ammo is pretty sturdy. Seems like overkill to vacuum seal ammo. Maybe store it is something that is more convenient for a grab and go situation.
I've heard of ammo recovered from sunken ships, years and years later, working just fine.

I pack grab-n-go ammo cans with ammo in boxes, but also loaded magazines, as well as other related items (gloves, ear plugs, etc.)
