AR or an underfolding AK for me...one of these days I'm going to ad a HK 91 clone to my arsenal.

No argument here. I just can't get myself to buy one. I would have to buy new mags, a scope, mount, the gun, accessories (extras) The eight rounds work and that *ping* lets me know I need to reload. If they get within 700 yards you can always switch to something else in this scenario right?

I have a French MAS 49/56 in 7.5 French to fill the battle rifle niche.

Best battle rifle is SCAR 17s
    Extremely reliable
    Sub MOA accuracy
    Light recoil for .308
    Ergonomic
    Light weight

VZ.58 all day, everyday... It's like the Cadillac version of the AK! Utterly reliable, but also ergonomic!

To me Aks, Vzs and such are close range rifles, real battle rifle should be capable of close to med range and possibly long range (.308)

I own three battle rifles (and a couple of assault rifles), but if I was going to battle I would pass up the 1903A3 and the M1 and grab my FAL.

I've heard some not so great things about this rifle. Heard it's a jam-o-matic.

    Probly from the internets..
They got a bad rap cause century really goofed quite a bit of them doing a shitty .308 conversion. Normal 7.5 rifles generally run like a top , if you handload it suffers from the same effects as the M1A with it's floating firing pin so you have to use NO.34's or you'll dump the whole mag in just over 1 second.

If you're curious about the MAS 49 system, get yourself a copy of "Proud Promise" .
a slow death awaits you,but not before love reminds you that there is good in you
