Here's the policy from their web site. They're "ensuring" the safety of their guests and employees, ha ha.

    Backpacks/Packages/Bags:
Security issues have become a daily part of our lives in America. Regal Entertainment Group wants our customers and staff to feel comfortable and safe when visiting or working in our theatres. To ensure the safety of our guests and employees, backpacks and bags of any kind are subject to inspection prior to admission. We acknowledge that this procedure can cause some inconvenience and that it is not without flaws, but hope these are minor in comparison to increased safety.

This cries out for a Youtube video. A bunch of us should go see a movie, let them check our bags, watch the movie, and then go out to the parking lot and videorecord ourselves pulling out the arsenals that we carried inside with us. I could easily carry a 1911, a full-size .40, a 9mm full-size and 9mm compact, and a .380 without breaking a sweat.

Haven't been to a movie theatre in about 15 yrs, and probably only 2 or 3 in 10 years before that. I'm missing nothing.

If I was a business, I would want my customers and staff to BE comfortable and safe. Maybe that's just me...

In a t-shirt, shorts and a hoodie I could securely and comfortably carry 2 gov't model 1911s and a total of 94 rounds without even starting to get creative.

So, they wish to "ensure the safety" of patrons?

How do they do that at the courthouse? They use metal detectors to disarm everyone, they secure every entrance, and then they fill the place with armed deputies and visiting cops. Is Regal Theaters going to hire half a dozen armed security guards? Are they going to secure the fire exits (because the Aurora shooting involved Mr Loony going in unarmed and then propping the door so that he could come back in with his Big Bag O' Death and start killing the sheep who obeyed the "NO GUNS" signs.

How do they ensure the safety of President Obama? Not by disarming him, that's for sure. They control every entrance, they weld down manhole covers, they post snipers and men with Stinger anti-aircraft missiles on rooftops. Is Regal Theaters going to be doing stuff like that?

We need a law passed, modifying the tort laws, so that any company which disarms patrons is now responsible for all foreseeable 3rd-party harm caused thereby. See if the anti-gun weenies still think this is a good idea, once they are on the hook for resulting deaths. Because for now, they can do this and cry crocodile tears after the next Massacre Of The Unarmed, and they're not liable for the wrongful deaths, which is great for the bean-counters who can make grand anti-gun gestures without paying any personal or corporate price for doing so.

We stopped going to theaters long ago, about the time studies began appearing regarding the stuff being left on and under seats by the 3rd world and urban yutes. Bugs and grease and exotic microorganisms, all over the seats and head rests and chair arms and sticky floors. It's like reading a good book with your head propped on a public toilet seat. No thanks. And that's without factoring in the "let's talk at the screen" sub-culture, or the rude pricks making beeping and texting noises while holding up the little bright screen to distract everyone else from the movie.

I have a big TV at home, and a Blu Ray player. I'm good.

    I find this particularly troubling/annoying/telling...

"Moviegoers have become so accustomed to having these types of security measures enacted in all kinds of public spaces, from theme parks to sports venues and rock concerts,” says Dergarabedian. “Regal has decided to make a concerted effort to show their patrons that they’re aware of security issues.”
