They really just want to make sure that moviegoers don't smuggle in cheaper food and drinks from outside. That way the patrons would have no choice but to buy their overpriced refreshments.

Re: Regal Cinemas now checking bags for guns
A lot of anti's (and naive people) are trying to claim that, but it was done as a reaction to the recent shootings, PER THE COMPANY.
Any of you on FB (I am not), feel free to join in the backlash:

I'm not sure exactly when the last shooting took place but it wasn't a few nights ago yet THE COMPANY is just getting around to this decision now.

Re: Regal Cinemas now checking bags for guns
Well, one way that I can think to get this misguided policy changed is to deliberately stage a mass "bag in" on the opening night of the next major blockbuster. If all of us, including our wives and children and friends, all go to the movies carrying bags, they will become so everwhelmed by searching bags that people will be prevented from making it in to the movie on time due to the delay. At which point we all approach the management for a refund because we came to see a movie, not be delayed by bag searches.
If the process becomes so inconvenient that it causes sales to drop, it will cease.Sed ego sum homo indomitus

Re: Regal Cinemas now checking bags for guns
There aren't any movies that I'm interested in enough that I can't wait until they come out on DVD or on TV. I think the last movie I went to see was when we took the kids to see ET at the drive-in. There's been a housing development where that drive-in stood for at least 30 years.

Re: Regal Cinemas now checking bags for guns
You're thinking about it wrong. I seriously doubt they would implement such a policy off an emotional kneejerk, especially when they don't actually seem to be trying to prevent carry. The 'we're looking for guns, but only in bags' could even be seen as a backdoor endorsement of CC.
They're almost certainly doing this to mitigate the drop-off in ticket sales after the latest theater shooting, which is pretty strictly tied to gun-fearing individuals. They certainly don't want (on the national scale) to spend even more to double to triple their security staff. Searching bags is a tool. It's plus, the few (demographic dependent) people who bring their own concessions aren't worth searching every bag.
I wouldn't worry about this. OC wasn't allowed before, CC isn't affected, it's a stunt. A few overzealous managers will be a problem, most won't care.Last edited by greenjohn88; August 20th, 2015 at 06:47 PM.

Regal has been anti gun for awhile.... Has never been a good place to spend your money. And not many people carry in a bag anyway.

Last movie I saw at the theatre was Austin Powers Goldmember. Have no plans on going anytime soon, even before this bullshit.
