State College area - pending restrictions
I don't participate on this particular forum much, but felt this was worth sharing. Please move if this isn't the proper subforum.
Despite this:
18 PA. STAT. ANN. §6120 (2011)
No county, municipality or township may in any manner regulate the lawful ownership, possession, transfer or transportation of firearms, ammunition or ammunition components when carried or transported for purposes not prohibited by the laws of this Commonwealth
They're trying to keep you from carrying firearms in public parks (the same parks where several people have been attacked in recent years):

We get the government we deserve. Many of those council members sound as if they'd have a hard time beating a ham sandwich on Jeopardy.
"A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself"

Obviously the four people do not care about laws, rights or tax payer dollars.

Re: State College area - pending restrictions
No they don't. They specifically repealed the ordinance because of Act 192 because they knew it was illegal and they would lose and have to pay. Then, when Act 192 got tossed, they figured 'we're safe to break the law again'. I love how the one man stated that passing ordinances was a way to express the council's "feelings and opinions" on matters. Legal blackmail is back on the table in PA municipalities. This time, if someone wants to have an OC rally to challenge this ordinance, can we PLEASE get all our ducks in a row in case legal action is necessary BEFORE we do it? Just sayin'.

Re: State College area - pending restrictions
You're right. Unfortunately, most of the citizens who are actually intelligent and industrious members of the community don't have the desire or time to be Councilwomen and Councilmen to propose such useless wastes of taxpayer money, because they are busy being teachers and doctors and engineers and parents to their children. What you end up with, many times, are literally dumber-than-ham-sandwiches in those spots. Then, when people start to realize that the town or city is in debt and stupid and restrictive laws are being passed, someone smart gets fed up and runs for that position. But the status quo seems to be the ham sandwich in office.

Re: State College area - pending restrictions
I'm confused. They claim they decided to change the park rules 'after' Act 192 was passed, but wasn't the borough and other surrounding municipalities already making changes after this was hashed out 2011-2012 as detailed here; http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=134891
Does the council have that short of a memory?
