Ruger 480 Super Redhawk?
Ive been waiting and waiting for the new glock 40 mos to come out. Tired of waiting. I recently found a Super Redhawk new in 480 ruger. I do reload. It has a 7.5 inch barrel. It has spiked my interest and I put it on layaway. Any feedback, anyone have one? Im thinking of using this for a whitetail here in PA.
Seems to be an interesting caliber that can be loaded heavy or light with a little less recoil then most of the big bore revolvers.
Ive never had anything bigger then a 44 mag before.
PS I do reload.Last edited by Edg; August 12th, 2015 at 11:50 AM.

Be sure to wear your anti-flash gear . . .
"Achtung! Fertig!"
Seriously, given that you reload, you can dial the 480 anywhere your want, from mild "480 Special" target-plinking loads to thumpers that will bring down a B-52. Factory 480 loads are noticeably heavier in recoil and muzzle blast than factory 44 Magnum loads.
The Bisley grip handles recoil a bit easier than the standard plow handle single-action grip, but I'm not sure the 480 Super Blackhawk comes in a Bisley grip option.
Enjoy!

Re: Ruger 480 Super Blackhawk?
I'M SURE YOU REALIZE THAT POSTING ALL IN CAP'S IS CONSIDERED SHOUTING. BUT GIVEN THE FACT THAT YOUR GOING TO OWN A 480 RUGER....WHICH IS LIKE A 44 MAGNUM ON SUPER STEROIDS, YOU WILL HAVE TO PRETTY MUCH TALK THIS WAY THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.....EVEN WITH USING PLUGS AND MUFFS. As for typing, you will need wrist supports because your bones will be damaged.
Just pointing out a few facts.......

Re: Ruger 480 Super Blackhawk?
WHAT? WHAT DID YOU SAY?
In all seriousness, the SRH in 480R is a great gun and caliber. With the factory loading (325GR XTP @ 1250ish FPS) it is pretty much on par with a top loaded 44mag. When you start to handload, pushing a 420gr bullet you can come within about 100fps of 475 linebaugh territory, with the recoil to match.
The 480 SRHs are known for better than average accuracy.
I would say that for PA whitetails, you are not going to encounter any penetration issues with that caliber.
