Default PEC Oaks H&R 999 Find (Pics)

Just wanted to share a new find I picked up at the Oaks gun show. I looked over a S&W 317 thinking I would buy it but then I saw this clean blued steel and walnut revolver and snatched it up. I had to work on the price a bit and got it for $350.

    It's a Harrington & Richardson "SportsMan" 999 22 CAL.

    H&R Inc. WORC. MASS. USA

I was given a boat load of .22 Shorts and only had a Marlin Mod. 80 and a S&W 2206 so......... I bought a gun because I had the ammo for it. You guys don't do that, do you?

    lol

The alphabetical prefix on the serial number will give you the date year.

These are absolutely beautiful steel frame revolvers that will last forever. I had the opportunity to shoot one several months ago and it felt nice in my hands.

    $350 is a good price.

The beginning letter(s) of the serial number will determine the year.

That list at the link above doesn't have them all. H&R made them until 1986, then the company went out of business. It was refounded in 1987, and production by the new company continued to the mid-90's.

Ok, based the chart the gun is from 1972 which makes it 42 years old..

As for the price, I saw two other H&R SprotsMan revolvers one was worn out for $260 and the other was identical to mine for $499.

I'll let you guys know how it goes at the range.

It's a drop dead gorgeous piece. Your motto at the show must have been "Endeavor to Persevere".

    What a great find!

Bamboomaster, Me and my 12yr old(Daughter) went to the show specifically to find the best .22 Cal. revolver for the money we could. We saw other model H&R's, Charter Ams, S&W's(FYI the K22's were going for well north of $800).

Two hours later we were walking out the door with big smiles on our faces.

    We divided and conquered.

The H & R "SportsMan" 999 22 CAL. is a real gem. I bought one new when they were being produced by H & R 1871. Because of it's uniqueness, I won't part with mine. I can't think of any other top break, 9 shot 22 cal. revolver out there. Your's is a keeper.
Lower your expectations to zero and you'll never be disappointed.
