Some help from mods on why a thread gets locked
So, I posted this thread in the "Pennsylvania" forum. It was locked within 10 minutes.
I note that the Attorney General of PA, who manages reciprocity agreements with other states, was just charged with abuse of that office. So, it's gun related, especially given how the charged official has altered the reciprocity landscape. It would certainly seem to be topical (PA gun related).
But I don't know if it's a dupe, or if the mods don't consider it gun related, or what--because it was instantly locked without an explanation either on-thread or via PM. It wasn't merged with the thread that's speculative about the whole saga. Just locked without an explanation.
It's Dan's forum and the mods are empowered to do whatever they deem necessary. But it sure would be nice to know why threads get randomly whacked which would otherwise appear to be legit--or to understand why they are not legit. Even a note saying "dupe" before the lock or "not gun related" or whatever looks better than a lockup.
My $0.02.

Re: Some help from mods on why a thread gets locked
What I don't understand is why "necro" threads get locked. Why bother having a thread floating around on the site if its just going to be locked when someone posts in it
After a week of inactivity, just delete them entirely if that's going to be the case.

Already an active Kane thread though mod should indicate.

Re: Some help from mods on why a thread gets locked
Should the mods take the time to search out threads when the users can't be bothered to? Searching for "kane" returns the already active threads on it. If a thread gets closed it's most likely because it's a duplicate.

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: Some help from mods on why a thread gets locked
If you're closing a thread because it's a dup, you obviously know it's a dup. If taking the extra time to cut and paste the dup thread URL is an undue burden. simply noting "dup" before locking thread shouldn't be. But as someone who does make an honest attempt to search before posting, I get your point.

This complaint is a dup.

The only way that this thread could be better is if it would end up locked in the manner in which the OP described.

Re: Some help from mods on why a thread gets locked
Before posting a possible dupe, one could search for a somewhat unique-to-that-story keyword. If it's about Kane, don't just search for her name, try another word that is key to the story.
