The new 18" gunners barrel is listed at .81 I confirmed it with Nathan from Faxon via email. I've seen their forum over on Ar15.com and they seem respected that's why I went with them cost vs quality seemed excellent and I'm sure it is. Some of my buddies advised me to stay away from rifle length gas systems in an 18" config I guess they were 100% right.

I might let Nathan know about it again not sure what they will do about it though at this point since I had them open it up.

Ever think of using a lighter buffer? I am guessing that the port is too close to the muzzle and shortening the dwell time of gas pushing the carrier back. Lower the mass getting pushed. A carrier for the ar15 not the m16 would cut mass also. A can would probibly fix everything. I bet the ammo that works has slower burn rate powder. Still making pressure when he bullet passes the port. If you go ar15 carrier don't forget to use a stepped hammer. Also make sure the carrier key is perfect alinement to gas tube.

I've put the entire upper on my carbine lower which has a 3.2 oz buffer and had the same issues. I also removed a few weights from my standard rifle length buffer earlier today and had the same issue on my 1st shot got frustrated and threw it on the bench.

This leads me to wonder how the hell 3 gun competitors can afford to practice if they are forced to only use high end ammunition. Not sure what Faxon was thinking with this line but I guess others have no issues with it at least not yet.

Reloads? I would guess they use reloads. Is there a rule on 3 gun about tube length?

A friend of mine on another site said the same thing he opened his up to .11 and added a adjustable has block so he can tune it depending on the season.

What brand barrel are you using?

There are rifles that don't work when it is cold or with or without a can?

Just in case this was not checked, there are 2 different dimensions that are milled on the back of the block facing the receiver. One type is shorter to accomidate the end cap in relation to the gas port, and these are the most common. If you are free floating, you have to allow for the missing end cap by leaving a gap. If you have a free float type block, you just install it up against the shoulder. Free float type blocks can't be used with an end cap/delta ring. (unless you have acess to a mill, or have Popeye forearms and lots of time/sandpaper to take off material)

If you have the set screw type, with the tube removed, remove the setscrew opposite the gas hole and slide the block up against the collar with the screwhole lined up with the port. If you only see part of the port hole, with the block up aganst the collar, you need to space it. Line it up, use a feeler gage to measure the gap, reinstall everything using that measurement. I just sandwich the gage between the collar and block, and slide it out once I get the set screws snug, then do a final check and torque it down.

    Hope this was of help.
