Default References for a license to carry?

I took a day off work today and hit the courthouse in Scranton to apply for a permit. It said I needed two references.

Here's the thing: I don't really know anyone around here except my coworkers, and I'm not sure about asking any of them to be references, since we're not really friends or anything. Do they have to be from Lackawanna County, or can I put down anyone from PA or NY?

When I did mine in Berks, I used a reference from NY and one from Philly. Then again, they don't require references in Berks anymore. Lackawanna may be the same.

Anyone as long as they're not a relative.

    References can't be family members.

I used one from York County and one from Maryland. At my first application and at my renewal neither was ever contacted anyway.
That said, each Sheriff's Dept. tends to do things a little differently.

Some Sheriffs make up requirements that go beyond the statutes and you might have a battle on your hands. The Sheriff is
expected to conduct the investigation. Exactly how much leeway that gives him might have to be decided by a judge, but the
statutes and the forms only say they can't be family.

    Good luck!

I thought it was said here that Philly did away with any references needed. If that's true, then shouldn't all counties be the same; no references required?

I agree, it should. Lotsa things should, but don't or haven't. I just figured I would prepare him for what he might actually run into.
To my knowledge the form hasn't changed, and quite a few of our Sheriffs are abysmal in the performance of their duties.

Wow, I got it. It's kinda crazy how easy it was, and how fast. Handed them the app with my ID and $20, and sat around for like 20 minutes. Boom! Permit in hand. My pic looks like crap, tho, LOL.

So, now I can carry pretty much wherever, right? When I buy a new gun, I mean. I'm gonna be hittin up some of the shops around here and see what's up.

Get acquainted with the stickies, ie http://forum.pafoa.org/showthread.php?t=7582

Some of our folks have put a tremendous amount of work into them, and you will find them at the top of quite a few sections.
You will spend a lot of time reading through them as there a a lot of valuable information within.

While your PA LTCF frees you up quite a bit there is still much to consider, and still some traps along the way. Learn them! Then ask questions
based on what you have read. Some of it may seem confusing, and a few bits might even be out-dated, since no one is being paid to keep it
    up to date.

You'll get better responses when your questions begin from a basic attempt at understanding the PA Uniform Firearms Act. Most folks aren't eager
to re-type the whole for you in a single post. It's about 170 pages, and portions of the U.F.A appear to have been cobbled together by idiots, so patience
    is advised!
