Sounds like both positive encounter to me. Just two citizens, one seemed concerned for your own sake and the other was just curious.
I've had people ask me to cover my weapon when its become revealed (my shirt gets caught on the holster or something). As long as they ask politely I comply with their request and thank them for pointing it out, like I would thank someone for telling me I had food on my face.
Its when I get comments like "you know it really is unnecessarily dangerous to be carrying around a loaded gun like that" that I start citing legal precedent, statistics, and peer reviewed studies until they back off. I then make it a point to keep my gun visible and in sight of the person who made the complaint until I'm done shopping.
