    Default Serial numbers.

I'm having an issue with a sibling who was only to receive 20%. Everything about estate has been Documented. He is having issues with My Dads weapons of which he was not allowed to have. However he is entitled to 20% of the appraised Value. Weapons have all been appraised by a FFL. Submitted for taxes etc
He is now requesting whereabouts of weapons and the SERIAL Numbers. Why? We don't know. Is he entitled for us to turn over Serial numbers. As we are going to court in two weeks.

I imagine he is entitled to know the whereabouts, make, model, and other details of the items of the estate. Serial numbers would only be of value to identification of individual guns.

For the most part, serial numbers themselves mean jackshit to value, but there are certain exceptions like when the serial number can denote year of production, which make correlate to a more valuable period of production(like Winchester's Pre-1964 era).

If he is a hostile beneficiary, he may be entitled to have the firearms appraised by his own appraisers.

My Lawyer is insisting I give up numbers. I'm insisting not. It they go in front of the Judge, they might end up in the "System"

Who is the executor? This will could take a long time going through probate unless you guys come together on an agreement.

I am the Executor! I can't figure out why he wants these. He's been fighting us for 18months already. Plus he's stolen a gun and my Dads 1950s Lionel's.

I would guess that they would have to be given for appraisal. Proving he stole guns and trains would be hard especially if he did it when they were alive. If you have actual proof then negotiate with that leverage.

Anyone who is named in the will can demand answers about any of the decedents real or personal property. Also, where did the 20% number come from? There are statutory minimums for spouses and children.

Different states, different rules. One may assume that this is a Pennsylvania estate (thus, Pennsylvania rules), but such was not stated.

Damn, what a shame. Siblings at war over items one of them can't have.

After my father died the four of us divided up his stuff and at times insisted another take something or another because the rest of us knew it's sentimental value to the other. Actual value meant nothing. We laughed, we cried, we hugged, we knew we were loved and that we loved each other.

OP, I hope this rectifies correctly. It sounds like your brother needed a good asswhipping many years ago.
