Re: Uber bans you
This comes just two months after a lawfully-armed Uber driver in Chicago used his personal handgun to stop a gunman’s attack.

Re: Uber bans you
The state of CA recently declared that Uber drivers were independent contractors, if that is true, then this order has no merit whatsoever.
But if Uber drivers are their employees, then Uber needs to start paying 1/2 the SS and supply obamacare.
They cannot have it both ways. The USA is now a banana republic. Only without the bananas....or the Republic.

Re: Uber bans you
It would be up to the driver, not Uber. As someone else stated, for liability reasons they keep repeating they're not a car service, they are just the software that helps you find a car.
So, if they're not the car service, they can't "ban" anything in the cars; it's up to the driver and if you're CCing, they won't know.
Why anyone would trust an Uber ride is beyond me. I see it going the route of the Craigslist Killers. It's as bad as hiring a babysitter with Care.com; WHY!?Last edited by alpacaheat; June 22nd, 2015 at 10:18 AM.

Re: Uber bans you
Allowing some random stranger to hop in the back of my car without having a means of defending myself? No effing chance!
Getting into a random stranger's car and being totally reliant on them actually driving me to my destination, without having a means of defending myself? No effing chance!
Not that I ever wanted to use Uber anyway, for rides or for collecting fares.
ETA: while Uber can't physically ban firearms from their drivers' cars (Uber doesn't own the car, so they have no private property rights), couldn't they make 'no carrying a firearm whilst using Uber' a condition of using their service?Last edited by ChemicalReaper; June 22nd, 2015 at 02:11 PM.

Re: Uber bans you
I'm not a lawyer but I believe that if the drivers are employees then Uber could probably do that. If the drivers are independent contractors - as Uber claims - then likely not. Uber cannot exhibit control over IC's, only employees, so it would be up to the driver to control the decision regarding firearms in the car, for the driver and passenger. If Uber has any control over the drivers, they are employees, not IC's.
