A Luger P08 shouldn't be using hot loads to begin with because of its toggle action. Your general run of the mill milserp or ball ammo 115gr is what the P08 was designed to handle.
Thanks for the advice. I never use hot ammo in any of my guns EXCEPT my modern revolvers (Ruger GP100 can take the hottest .357 magnums out there). My HK P7s get 'babied' with standard pressure only 9mm

I don't carry the old stuff because of wear and tear and the evidence thing if used. I like a nicely worn second hand reliable gun for carry. Smith&Wesson 640-1 Glock 23, that type of stuff. Not hard to find or replace. I would trust any John Mosses Browning gun. Replace all the springs, that's it. The rest of the gun is up to the task. Springs wear out. Mausers, Walthers, Markovs are all good to go. Lugers and broom handles? Try jamming one of those down your paints.

My Colt 1991A1 needed a new recoil spring after around 2500 rounds. Everything else is just fine 1000 rounds later.

Does my Colt Model 1911 in .38 Super with a birth date in the early 1930s count as an old gun ?? This is one of my BBQ guns and comes out with me several times in the summer.

My main BBQ gun is old; it's a generation one Single Action Army with see carry duty once or twice a year.

I wouldn't have any problem carrying old, maintained and reliable guns. But alas I do carry guns made within the last two years

The one I carry most on my hip was made when I was four years old which was 42 years ago.

    I trust it completely.

My regular carry gun is a Smith 36-"no-dash" I got through a lawyer friend from a client of his going up the river for kiddie porn.

It's 100% reliable and accurate out to 50' (the farthest I've shot it).

I wouldn't trust one of Smith's current lock guns.

For my winter coat carry I have a S&W Model 1917 .45 that was made for Brazil back in 1937 and was brought back in the 1980's. It's a beauty. Somebody put a 3" underlug barrel and FDL Wondersight on it, tightened up the lockwork a little and hardchromed it. It shoots better than I do.
