Default Long Range Rifle - where do you shoot?

So, I've been out a few times with my 260 Remington to about 450 meters, but I am having difficulty finding somewhere local to stretch out. I'm located in northern Berks county, over by Dixon's near Kempton / Cabelas in Hamburg. I do live on a farm, but because of the way the roads and hills are laid out, I'm limited to a couple hundred yards without shooting over a road or in a direction without a solid / safe backstop. I have been going out to my hunting club outside of Pine Grove where there's the pit that goes about 450 meters. I know some of the local guys out there have spots they claim to get out to 1,000 yards, but it's on private land & they're iffy about whether I'd be allowed on there (still active coal operations).

I know there's a couple pay ranges that go out there pretty far, but I'm not really looking for a place that's 2 or 3 hours away - They're not practical simply because of family life & work schedule.

I see people on here talking about shooting at distance. Are all you guys over on the west side of the state by the Burgh or something? Does anyone have a good, safe spot over in eastern PA?

Thanks, I think New Holland is too far for me to go to only get out another 100 yards or so. I've heard good things about that range though & wish it was closer. Maybe I'll have to hit google maps & knock on some of the farmers' doors.

I must ask how much farther are you looking to push the 260, its not exactly a thousand yard caliber. If that's what your looking for, there are only a handful of 1000yrd ranges open to the public and you will have to drive to them all. Unless you find private land.

The 260 Rem is absolutely a 1,000 yard cartridge.

You are just around the corner from New Holland! Good luck finding a place where you can shoot legally/ safely in the area you are posting about.

Yup, yup, yup. New Holland, I hear, has some good ranges lol. It's way on the other side of Reading though. I know there's gotta be spots right around me where people shoot at distance. I just need to find the right old man to invite me along.

It seems like asking about a good long range spot is like asking about someone's secret fishing spot. Nobody wants to share.

What is it with people in this state that anything further than 20-30 minutes to them they talk about like it's 8 hours?!?
