Oregon: Gun control bill aimed at domestic abusers

SALEM — An Oregon Senate panel has advanced legislation prohibiting people from keeping their firearms if they’ve been convicted of domestic violence or are under a restraining order.

Bill sponsor Sen. Laurie Monnes Anderson has said Oregon doesn’t currently have a law preventing domestic violence offenders from possessing a gun.


She said there are not enough federal agents to enforce federal laws prohibiting certain domestic-violence offenders adjudicated by the courts from having a firearm.

Critics argued the proposal was too overreaching because it went beyond federal standards in its definition of “intimate partners.”

In order to build bipartisan support, Monnes Anderson amended the legislation to match federal rules.

The Senate Committee on Rules approved the legislation 4-0 on Tuesday. Now, it heads to the full Senate.

Pretty much, some counties are worse than others. Never the less PFA's have become standard operating procedure for divorces while those making false claims are never held accountable for doing so.
