Default Range in Franklin County Area??

I was wondering if any of you know of a range in franklin county I can go to. I dont really care if its just someones homemade range thats willing to share or if it is an actual range. I was looking for some little long range shooting when I come back from Ft. Riley KS. If anyone can be helpful it would be greatly appreciated.

Try the Chambersburg Rod and Gun Club. It's at 3725 Warm Spring Road. Tell them Dennis Mickey sent you (not that anyone would remember me by now!)

Same here, I just recently bought my first gun(s) and when I go visit my Mom & Dad he'd take me shooting at his hunting club!!!

Great fun and great time spent with my Dad...this is in the Horse Valley area...

But recently the Hunting Club dispersed a few members and added new ones...thus eliminating my Dads entry into the shooting area...

IS there ANY other place anybody knows of to go shoot, Dad and Brother are checking with a few of buddies to see if anyone knows of a place to go...

Short range for handguns, 10-25 yds....

Something fairly close, Dad doesn't like to travel to far...

Here is a post I sent another guy who was inquiring.......... with changes to reflect new club rules.

    Well . . . . .

NO 50BMG or other .500 or over centerfire. No armor-piercing or incindeary ammunition.

No "informal" targets (ie: TV's, Buicks, etc.)

Shotgunners may bring cardboard (boxes or flats) for targets, but do not shoot target holders. Must clean up after themselves !

    Don't shoot the trees.

All firing must be from the official "firing line". If you need shorter ranges, then bring your own stakes and cards - clean up after shooting.

    20 firing points (12 covered) for long-range rifle, 50, 100, 200, 300, & 400 yd targets

a significant 22 silhouette range which can host 20 shooters at a time,

    Black-powder range with 65' covered firing line, targets at 25, 50, 75, & 100 yds.

three trap-houses, two with electric, automatic traps.

turkey shoots spring and fall, on monday nights,

nearly 90 acres, with picnic pavillion, and a walk-around archery range with mackenzie and other targets, (75-90 targets total)

Guests may shoot with a member, and the member is resopnsible for the Guest and his conduct on the range. A visit or two is usually enough to inspire in most guests a significant desire to join. Members may sponsor guests for membership, in fact new members must be sponsored by members.

    It's a family-oriented thing, too.

The club is financially self-supporting, but dues are only a part of the financial stream. We hold drawing/dinners several times each year, with several $1000 cash-drawings, further, we operate a funnel cake trailer at local fairs and festivals for the majority of our funding. Six Turkey-shoots are held in the spring and six in the fall. Members volunteer for service with these projects and make the programs run.

The inner clubs each have their own events (Black powder hosts a spring and a fall rendezvous "Rondy"), .22 have a summer league, Long-Distance Rifle hold the "Groundhog Shoots" with prizes sometimes getting into four figures, trap shooters shoot in a county league all summer, and archery hold their shoots summer and winter.

We close the ranges for a week every summer for the Girl Scout Encampment, where we teach archery and .22 to the Scouts. Every year, we host the Pennsylvania Hunter Safety Course for FREE to 75-100 new hunters. We have Haloween and Christmas parties for the families (no alcohol) to bring children and grandchildren, We also have Halloween Parties, Valentines' Day Dances and dinners, Christmas parties for the adults. Annually, we have a "Sportsman of the Year" Banquet where a member is recognized for service to the club.

We also have annual awards for big buck, smallest buck, big/smallest turkey, squirrel, bass, trout, etc. .

Membership (annual) is $25. initiation fee and $25 yearly thereafter.
    Junior $(under 16) no initiation fee, $15/yr
    Adult & spouse, $50 initiation, $30/yr.
    Senior (60 and over) $25 initi, $20.yr
    Sr. Couples, $25 init, $25/yr
Life mbrshp. (adults only) $25 init., $200/life.

Inner clubs (Archery, Black Powder, .22, etc range from $3 to $10/yr.)

My phone is 717-372-4070. Call me and we'll arrange an appointment to take you to the range and let you savor the experience.

Hard for me to not sound facetious, but with 400 yard shooting range on 90 acres: "outdoor - ? " . . . . . . well, yes. (I just HAD to, lol.)
Beautifully landscaped, a bit of mowed grass (range areas and clubhouse_, natural woodlands, paved driveways (some) and parking.

St. Thomas Sportsmen's Association, is in (actually a mile and a half west of ) St. Thomas. Sorry, I didn't put that in my answering post.

Range is open daylight hours to MEMBERS AND AUTHORIZED GUESTS ONLY. Guests must be accompanied by member. Ranges are seldom closed but on some other occasions such as Girl Scout encampment, during social events, scheduled matches, etc. range closure may be full or partial. (ie. 22 range and trap closed when Groundhog Shoots are in process; 22 & long range closed for trap, and so forth - because there is some crossover of shotfall or proximity to bullet-path).

The member is his own RO, SO, and shooter, if he is at the range by himself. There are sound range practices included in the rules which depend in large measure on common sense and courtesy of all involved. (If anyone calls "Cease Fire!" all comply immediately)

We are a club which places a high drgree of reliance upon the intellligence and responsibility of the member-shooter - that is why new membership is contingent upon sponsorship by a member. That is why I invite you to accompany me to the range if you are interested in (1) Seeing it, (2) shooting there, and (3) becoming a member.

To quote from my previous post, the invitation: My phone is 717-372-4070. Call me and we'll arrange an appointment to take you to the range and let you savor the experience.

Let's go shooting, give me a call. I need a legitimate excuse to walk away from the stress and care of retirement.
