    Default Sig P228, P229 or M11-a1

I am getting ready to buy a 9mm Sig and I am torn between the three options.

I don't care about an accessory rail and will be carrying it regularly. Won't be looking to do any caliber conversions, its going to be strictly 9mm.

I have held the p229 and m11 and they feel great (as long as the p229 has the e2 grips) but havent had the luxury of shooting any of them.

They are all within budget so money isn't really a concern. I just want to make sure that if I spend the extra money for one over another its really worth it.

Looking for input from anyone who has had these models and their opinion on the way to go.

Thanks in advance for the input.

That's not how you spell Glock.

When I read the thread title I thought, "Yes. All of them."

Preference to the P228. Never handled one that I didn't like, or could shoot extremely well -- soup can lid groups at 25 yrs/meters, two hand hold. That's minute of bad guy / zombie, right there.

SIG is how I spell Glock.

Of those, I'd go 228 as well. I've never been a fan of DA/SA, though once past the initial trigger pull, the SRT (if available) is fantastic. If tomorrow I was forbidden to carry a 1911, I'd carry my 220 carry srt in a heartbeat.

I have shot all three of them rather extensively. The P228 is a bit sleeker than the P229. The P228 takes a 13 Rd. magazine as standard; the P229 has a 15 Rd. magazine as standard in it's 9mm variant. The M-11A1 is a bit of a hybrid of the P228 and the P229. It utilizes what is essentially a modified P229 frame with a modified P228 slide. It utilizes the 15 Rd. P229 magazines as standard; though it has P228 marked stocks(grips) interestingly enough. The M-11A1 has night sights fitted as standard as well as the short reset trigger. This is an option not always present on the other two models. All three are extremely accurate and reliable.

My preference is the M-11A1 (I own three of them) very closely followed by the P228. While the P229 is a fine pistol, it is a better platform for the .40S&W/.357 Sig rounds. Either the 9mm P228 and the M-11A1 are as fine a 9mm pistol as you will ever find. As Noah said "Glock is spelled SIG".

The M11A1 is really the best of the 3 IMO. I own several of each and always come back to the M11 if I'm in a 9mm SIG mood. I run the 15rnd M11 mags, regular 13rnd P228 mags and some 17rnd P226 MecGar mags all with no problems.

I got a M11-A1 last month & after shooting a couple hundred rounds of carry ammo & my reloads to confirm reliability, it alternates EDC duty with my 1911. I like the gun so much, I decided to splurge & get a Garret Industries Silent Thunder OWB for it.

I like most Sig DA/SA triggers, but the Short Reset Trigger on the M11 is especially nice. It's not as smooth as the trigger on my old 226 yet, but it's getting there.

FYI: When ordering extra mags, you need mags for the 229-1.

228 would be my suggestion for A 9MM platform. As stated above the older (original) 229 were built for the 40 Rd. They are great guns that rank right there with the 228.

The M11A1 is basically A newer 229 in 9MM brought out to fill the need for the folks that dont want to search for A real 228. Great marketing ploy by Sig to put 228 on the grips.

But in the end its your choice, Plus whichever you buy probably wont be your last Sig.

Thanks for all of the input. My initial leaning was the m11 and it sounds like that's the one I'll get (for now).

Mark another one for the m11a1. I regularly carry mine, and it didnt hurt at all that when I picked up mine it came with 3 mags. Comes with SRT (maybe best trigger out there) as well as night sites AND the short reach trigger? Yeah pretty much doesnt get much better than that. Only thing I did was add E2 grips.
