Default New .45 or convert 1911 to .400 corbon?

I'm thinking ahead to my next firearm related purchase. I was thinking of getting something else in .45 thats NOT a 1911 ( I have 3 and thats enough for me right now). Then I got to thinking about converting my Para 1911 to .400 Corbon. It would only be a range gun, so is it something I should consider or is it really a waste to have another caliber to reload for?

I'm not familiar with .400 corbon and will be tuned into this thread to learn something.

To your question... the key for me would be to acquire something different to add to my collection, versus doubling, tripling... up on something I already have. I have an AR, but my bucket list includes an M1A, among other things...

Not worth it in my opinion. Converting to Corbon will run you a pretty penny in reality, all you're getting is 10mm ballistics. If it were me, I'd just buy a 10mm. Ammo is readily available, and cheaper.

    Otherwise, I'd get a CZ 97 or FNX-45.
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.

The conversion for a 1911 isnt bad, barrels can be had under 80 bucks, then a link and pin. Plus reloading dies, and destroying my 45 brass. I really like the look of the FNX-45 and thats likely the route I'd go if I decide to get something new.

.400 Corbon is a 45 acp case necked down to .40. Think .357 sig.

I vote 460 rowland 45 caliber bullet with the speed and power of a 44 magnum

Jim Clark is Jerry Miculek's brother in law. Does fine work. He also sells these kits starting at $295.00. Plus you can still shoot 45 acp and load 460 rowland with your 45 dies. The case is the only diff 1/16" longer. His melted 1911 is one gorgeous piece.

Is it worth all the extra work your going to have to put into reloading for it? When your getting 10mm ballistics, why not just go to 10mm and save yourself the trouble.

As for another .45ACP why not look into the Glock lineup or the FN lineup?

Bottle-necked pistol ammo is a PITA to reload. At least with the .357 Sig you have a fair variety of factory ammo - not so much with the .40 Corbon. Call me lazy, but give me a nice straight-walled pistol case that I can load with carbide dies.

If you are looking for variety, look at a Sig P220. They are available in conventional DA/SA, DAO (DAK) and SAO. Also if you have a hankering for a .40/10mm the 220 is now available in 10mm.

Do you want to be "exotic?"
And have all the pros and cons that go with it?
If so , then yeah , go ahead.
If not , then keep the .45acp

My friend had to have a 7mm STW for his deer hunting in the PA woods where he sometimes has up to a 75yd shot.
It was at the time the latest and greatest and he was the only guy on his block who had one.

Well , he figured I was going to listen when he started complaining about the lack and cost of ammo. He was wrong.
