Default DAO; Only, no striker fired, DAO,ideas

    Hey from Pennsylvania!

I have several different handguns; pistols, revolvers, some SA, some double action, some striker fired.

I'm looking for input and opinions on what yinz' prefer as far as a DAO.
Not trying to be a wise-guy but I'm not talking striker fired (I already have a Glock 19). And not looking for input on a traditional DA. I'd like input on any DAO (Double Action Only) pistol(s) you have or had.

Minimum 9MM, plan to carry of course. Safeties, decockers, etc not a problem. Thanks in advance.

SIG p226 DAK. Popular police gun. Legendary sig reliability.

My SIG Sauer P229R DAK has a great trigger. The DAK (Double Action Kellerman) is ideal. It starts at 6.5 pounds and after 500 rounds, it breaks in and is more of a 5.5 pound pull. After shooting Glocks for years, it takes a little getting used to.

The Walther PPX has a fantastic trigger, but the magazines are costly.

H&K's LEM trigger is another great pick on any of their models, but like the Walthers, have pricey magazines.

The older style DAOs have very deliberate, heavy triggers, while the new models are slicker.

Do you consider $19.99 expensive? Because CDNN has them all day at that price for 9mm (10 or 16 round) or 40. That's dirt cheap, imho. Factory mags are made by MecGar as well.

I do love the trigger, but it's hardly DAO. It gets pre-cocked whenever you rack a round, and can't be fired any other way. It doesn't function like any DA trigger I've ever felt.

I never knew Walther to have any cheap magazines ever since the introduction of the P99. That's great if they are $20 ($19.99 is a fallacy).

The SIG P226 and P229 DAKs have already been mentioned, and I will add the Beretta 92D (9mm) and 96D (40 S&W) in standard length and Centurion (shorter barrel that is flush with the slide) length.

Accuracy is excellent. These are the pistols on which I learned DA shooting late in my shooting experience, and showed me to my surprise how accurately I could shoot DA.

The Beretta D models have what looks like a bobbed hammer that cocks and falls each time the trigger is pulled. They also have the "D hammer spring" which significantly reduces trigger pull force and smoothes it up. I have fitted D springs to all of my 92/96 Beretta DA/SA pistols, but that's a different post.

Used D models can be found in the high $300s here in western PA, but out-of-production Centurion models don't stay in display cases for long.

/\ /\ /\ This! Was not overly impressed with HKs until I tried the light LEM. Now they are the only ones I carry.
