Car Holsters
Husband and I both have jeeps that we only use for different climbs and trails and we each have Gum Creek steering wheel holsters. I travel out of state for work about 2-3 times a month mostly by myself so I've been looking to put some kind of holster in my car. I drive a Pt Cruiser so id rather have one that's tucked away somewhere. Anyone use anything like this? I've thought about just going for the purse holster but I'm not sold on the idea.

Re: Car Holsters
I've seen people simply wedge an IWB or OWB style holster (preferably one made of Kydex or similar material that doesn't squash too much) between the seat and the center console.
Personally, I just leave the gun on. I don't like to leave a gun in the car unless I absolutely have to, and not having to unholster and reholster every time I get in and out of the car strikes me as being safer.
This looks like a good method:

Best and safest holster is one you have on your person.
Stay armed my friends.

Re: Car Holsters
First choice is on my belt but I commonly place if in the arm rest / center console. I can actually get to it quicker in the console than off my hip. The console is secure and out of sight from those that don't need to know.

Re: Car Holsters
I'm not big on leaving guns in my vehicle.
That said, if you're going to do it, mount some type of retention holster in the vehicle and keep it there. A SERPA would work fine for this, and would be easy to mount. If you're ever involved in an accident, any unsecured handgun will become a two-pound metal projectile flying around the cab of your car. Not good.Last edited by sprrdhawk44; April 29th, 2015 at 05:02 PM.

Re: Car Holsters
I hear you loud and clear, but I found that leaving the gun OWB or IWB on my right side did two things. First, it made releasing the seat belt necessary to get to the gun. Second, I could become uncomfortable on long drives. Not that I have a low dash mounted holster I can lean forward and draw easily. When getting out of the car, I just take the gun out of the dash mounted holster and reset it in the IWB or OWB. It takes little time, increases comfort, and most important, it keeps the gun ready to draw fast with no seatbelt hindrance.
