There was a guy who did the old Valley Forge show that had lots of early M-16stuff , including buttstocks without trapdoor. I have a few original Navy issue triangular handguard sets. Put one on my Bushmaster for nostalgia sake. Replaced the round A2 guards no problems. Forgot how they tended to pinch when they got hot.

Replaced that with a Magpul which I like best of all.

Sarco has triangular hand guards in like new shape, well when I got mine anyway. It was just a few months back. They have most of what you want. They just sold out the old kits.

Does anyone in SE PA do this kind of work?

    Thanks

    True that!

OP - you have a A1 carry-handle upper I think someone makes a CAR-length triangle forestock for an appearance like the earliest "XM177s" seen in pics. But I think it may require the "triangle" front-sight-base plate? Not 100% sure, I have an early-70's SP1 rifle and will keep it as it is so never pursued it...

Sportsmens guide sells 2/3 complete kits from Vietnam era m16's, missing barrels and lower, all are used, most are beat up, but some are in good presentable shape after a cleaning, most even come with the auto sear even tho they failed to note that in the description

    As me how i know

3rd return/replacement order was a charm, and all had an m16 lpk in there

If you are willing to go birdcage, go A2. The A2 can't be told apart from the A1 unless you are holding the firearm and inspecting it. And the A2 does a great job at preventing muzzle climb, while the A1 does nothing.

Here is mine (but with aftermarket mag). Sorry, I don't have room to upload a pic of the entire rifle.
