Default HK P7 at the range

Took my newly acquired Heckler & Koch P7 to the range for the first time. Only had 35 rounds of 124 gr. FMJ and 9 rounds of 124 gr. JHP.

This pistol is the best shooting pistol I've ever owned, hands down. I've had glocks, SIGs, Colts, and others. To ME, the P7 is distinctly special. The bore axis is so low, it feels like you're pointing your index finger and the rounds go where your finger points. The recoil is straight back with almost zero muzzle rise. Accuracy at 10 yards, holes on top of holes.

All this accuracy in a full size service pistol that fits in my front pocket in a DeSantis N3 pocket holster.

    I think I'm a 'convert' to the P7.

Mine is a pleasure to shoot. No issues ever.

I found both triggers to be terrible to me so the triggers are on a scale to me.. The Glock was a crisper suck and the XD was a more mushy suck. They are in the same family, SR9 (heavy suck), Glock (crisp heavy suck), XD( lighter mushy suck), M&P(heavy mushy suck).

Brings a tear to your eye doesn't it. I agree, one of, if not the best handgun of all times. Congrats and enjoy!

I enjoyed shooting a friend's P7 and PSP (heel magazine release version) years ago. The burn on the triggerguard didn't bother me. In fact, I smiled when I saw that burn on my support hand for years until it went away.

Every now and then I look for the used German Police P7s just to think about getting one.

A German police surplus P7 is in my carry rotation, and I have a pristine P7M8 that goes with me to the range. Yes, they are fantastic pistols, and very unique. Since HK has discontinued them, they've reached collector status and command high prices.

I should also say that the infamous 'heat' issue above the trigger guard from the gas cylinder is really a NON-issue. No rapid fire strings, just normal cadence shooting. Took time between magazines to load magazines (I had three total with me), and the pistol never got any warmer than my GP100 shooting 125 grain .357 magnums at the same pace. I suppose in the zombie apocalypse this gun could get very hot: that's a good reason to have two P7's.

Believe me they get hot, and when the weather is hot they seem to never cool down, at least in my experience.

Any time I've ever took my P7 to the range I've always brought along another gun to shoot in between cool down.

I've never noticed any heat issues. But then again, when I take her to the range, I'm usually shooting 50 or less rounds.
