Default Cheap but reliable snubbie recommendations

G/F turns 21 next week and I'm looking to get a cheap, but reliable snubbie for her that she can stuff in her pocket or her pocket book...prefer .38 since I think .357 will be WAY too much for her. correct me if I'm wrong, but a .357 chambered gun can shoot both .357 & .38, but a .38 chambered gun cannot shoot a .357?

what do you guys recommend and what can they be had for and pics if you can get them.

    Thanks again,
    Andrew

Ditto on the Taurus, $250-300. Mine shoots well and the heavier frame reduces felt recoil over my alloy frame Smith.

Just an FYI, when I bought my Taurus 605, I went through 3 of them before I got one that functioned correctly. On the first one, you could break the cylinder free and spin it, wether cocked or not. Took it back and traded it for a second, and that one would jam when trying to rapid fire (think it had something to do with the lock out mechanism.) Took that one back, and got a third. No problems as of yet after about 150 rounds...

Don't forget the S&W Lady Smith 642 Airweight Ladysmith 38SP+P, 1 7/8 Inch, Double Action Only

    Personally I like the 442.

Taurus 85 is a good choice for the money...

I own one thats ported and it's a nice little shooter... Easy to manage for small hands.

Good recommendations. Taurus makes a good gun. Sure there are always lemons with every manufacturer. Ask me about my Kimber experience sometime...It has been my experience instructing lady shooters, that the light weight revolvers are very difficult for them to operate safely (lots of holes in the roof of the range). Given the already small contact area in the butt, the reduced weight turns the mild mannered .38SPL cartridge into a recoil monster for those with small hands and poor hand strength.

Given the limited power of the .38SPL cartridge, and the difficulty that comes with accurately shooting a short barreled revolver, I usually recommend a Glock 19 to women and first-time shooters. The 26 is smaller, but the double recoil spring makes it difficult to operate. The 19 is cheap, easy to operate, and easy to shoot. Ammo is inexpensive and plenty powerful for self-defense.

    Good luck.

can't go wrong with a taurus, I have owned several ones and never a problem, owned two kimbers first no problem second one a nightmare, as for the G19 also excellent choice but since you said it is for your G/F to carry in her purse G19 a little to big and heavy. stick with a snubby, brought a taurus 85 last night from advanced arms in pittston. chris very friendly and gave good price, can't get better.
