AR:get store bought or have 1 made?
Like the title sez ... Is having one made any cheaper? I've looked online at the Bushy,DPMS&Stag and pretty much $8-850 for the ones I looked at.
Now I need to start checking around the Reading area for prices.
Has anybody found great prices within a 30-40 mile loop of Reading.
Seneca-Handgunners are on my call list anybody else to try?
Thanks folks
PS and yes as per a recent thread I started it's for zombie invasion:-/

build one
you can do a del-ton kit for around $565. $100 for a stripped lower, $465 for a base kit(comes with everything you need but a stripped lower).
The RRA CAR4 kits jumped up a tad recently, $650 for non chrome barrel and $690 for chromed barrel, add a lower and you've got an RRA

I would suggest you buy your first one. Then as you get more familiar with its workings build the rest. I'd go Colt, Bushy, Stag---in that order for your first purchase. I know the colts cost more but the pony is cool .

I would say buy if they weren't so simple that a 4 year old schooled in legos could assemble a match upper.

Re: AR:get store bought or have 1 made?
I would vote to build your own. There are plenty of how to guides on the internet, and if you get stuck the people on the forums will guide you through. I just finished a retro build with an early m-16/ar-15 upper w/o forward assist and a1 rear sight. Added the lightweight barrel w/early three prong flash hider, lower parts kit, and the early style stock, handguard, and grip. It was fun to do, and cheaper than trying to locate an early ar-15. now I have a copy of the type used in vietnam. If you are even the slightest bit mechanically inclined you can build an ar-15 from a kit, plus you get the self satisfying reward of doing it yourself.

Depends on the price. They are not complicated machines, so building them is something that just about anyone can do. I bought my first one because of a special that RRA was having at the time. I would have saved $20 to build it myself and the complete gun came with a magazine and case worth more than that.
How much is your time worth? If you have lots of spare time and friends who can help you if you get stuck or need a tool, then building one makes alot of sense.
Investment-wise, you will get out what you put in.VEGETARIAN: Native American word meaning "bad hunter"

Re: AR:get store bought or have 1 made?
I bought my first one and shot the hell out of it, took it apart, put it back together countless times, changed some things that I wasn't comfortable with and tricked it out a bit.....Basically got very familiar with it.
Now I am doing my own build, and it just seems easier now that I know the weapon in and out. It is fun building your own, because it seems more personal and somewhat sentimental.
If you are not familiar with the AR platform yet, I would suggest buying your first one.ZRT -SECTOR-7

Don't hesitate to build one (or three). They're easy, fun, and satisfying.

I bought my one and only as I didn't have the tools necessary to build one. I'm thinking of another one but this one I may build.
