Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
Well once again Wal Mart shows their stupidity (GOD I HATE THAT STORE)... had it been me I would have said the following:
Well then, since it seems Wal Mart staff and management haven't clue one what the laws about guns are you can take that rifle AND all my other business and stick it up Wal Mart's ASS!
And trust me, if you don't think I wouldn't say it just ask my wife how many stores, businesses and customers have heard damn near the same thing!

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
Yeah, get this. A few years ago, I bought a ruger 10/22 at walmart. They would not sell me ammo at the same time either. They actually had a manager walk me to the door after I purchased the 10/22. They said it was a store policy and that they had to escort every gun purchaser to the door after the purchase. The manager told me that I could put the gun in the car and then come back into the store and buy the ammo. I asked him if that made any sense at all to him. He said again, it was store policy. I have not bought another gun at walmart since. I felt like a criminal being escorted out of the store.

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
Man, Sauer's Trading Post in South Williamsport supplies a box of rounds with every purchase. Maybe he thinks you can't sell it either and just gives it away j/k
Be safe.

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
A buddy of mine had a similar experience and he is a little more bold than me. He was advised that he could not carry it out of the store, he promptly removed his carry piece cleared it and offered it to the manager, saying "do you want this one also?". The manager declined. I chastised my buddy. I guess that is why they call me the old man! I try not to make waves.
Be safe.

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
I had to go with my son to get his first rifle because he was underage. They would not sell us the ammo at the same time as the rifle. We had to lock the rifle in the car and go back in again to purchase the ammo. If you haven't guessed by now, it was Wal-Mart.

Ever buy a gun at Dunham's??? They almost force you to buy ammo with a gun....they get credit for attaching it to the sale.

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
when i was 13 or 14 i saved up money from mowing grass to get a savage model 64. my dad and i went to wall mart to get it and they walked us out and told us we couldn't get ammo with it, but we could come back in and buy ammo. that same wall mart says it is federal law that anyone under 21 cant buy handgun ammo. but with 9mm they ask if it is for a handgun or rifle, if you say rifle you only have to be 18. but 38 spl does not have that option.

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
Well, that one they appear to be correct on. From the BATF website:
(F6) Does a customer have to be a certain age to buy firearms or ammunition from a licensee? [Back]
Yes. Under the GCA, long guns and long gun ammunition may be sold only to persons 18 years of age or older. Sales of handguns and ammunition for handguns are limited to persons 21 years of age and older. Although some State and local ordinances have lower age requirements, dealers are bound by the minimum age requirements established by the GCA. If State law or local ordinances establish a higher minimum age, the dealer must observe the higher age requirement.
[18 U.S.C. 922(b)(1), 27 CFR 478.99(b)]
(F7) May a licensee sell interchangeable ammunition such as .22 cal. rimfire to a person less than 21 years old? [Back]
Yes, provided the buyer is 18 years of age or older, and the dealer is satisfied that it is for use in a rifle. If the ammunition is intended for use in a handgun, the 21-year-old minimum age requirement is applicable.

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
I usually feel like I'm about to commit a crime of passion every time a buy a handgun because I buy a small amount of ammo to go with it.
But I do get ammo every time. Every time. One stop shop.

Re: can't buy ammo and gun at the same time
I guess I am running short on patience with stupidity. I have gotten in the habit of questioning someone severely whenever they say "It's the law". 99 times out of 100, it's not and they feel stupid for pushing it. I run into that alot at work. Its OSHA regulation, Really? Which one, I want to look it up to make sure I am in FULL compliance. Nobody has EVER gotten back to me!
