    Default Which Hand Cannon

Been looking at adding another revolver / hand cannon. Anyone own either or have pro's/con's of each ?
Both Ruger's - First is Redhawk Kodiak Talo 44 mag Second is Super Redhawk Alaskan in 454 cas. They seem to be about $100 or so difference - Alaskan being the higher priced one.

Shot both 2 weekends ago and found the 454 a bit more comfortable to shoot on account of the talo grips not fitting my hand as nicely. Overall both guns were a blast with smooth triggers and clean sight pictures. Snappy but accurate and fun.

If you have no concerns about ammo pricing or availability I'd say Alaskan

They also make an Alaskan in .44 if you didn't know.

That is what did it for my brother in law also and I have to agree that the talo looks fantastic. However it was not as pleasurable to shoot as the Alaskan. We had some hot loads and though the 454 was a bit wilder it was certainly easier on the hand.

The .454 Casull.. I prefer the unfluted look.

But either way, I'll be jealous.

I know, I'm so torn. Want a 454, like the unfluted as well, but that Kodiak is so sexy !

The 44 mag with 185gr Remington's will make the same flame. I'm a huge fan of the 44 mag BUT why shoot 44 mag when you can shoot 45 mag...
