Re: Paranoid? Allegheny area .. have been told NOT to open carry...
Worth repeating.
Very important that you understand that you can't simply "unload" to be legal while in the car and then load up and carry once you are out of the car. Doesn't work that way.
There are a very few specific places you may transport an unloaded firearm in a vehicle.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!

empty: understandable. (un)luckily I'm from a locale that LOVES to litigate and regulate, so I'm good at reading the details. sadly, from conversing with some of my inlaws, I appear to be BETTER versed in the laws for PA than they are!

I'll also note that I attended a citizens police academy 2 years ago that was hosted by both of the municipalities mentioned in the OP and during one of the classes an attendee brought up the topic of "guns" and specifically "open carry".
The "academy" was being run by two high ranking officers - one from each department and they both sort of looked at each other then said "What about it? It's legal."
So yeah, they know it's legal.
That's not to say that every single officer you could potentially cross paths with fully understands, or accepts it, but overall, it was nice to hear it come right from them and more or less "voluntarily" too.
I've met quite a few officers over the years here and all but one has been very much "pro-citizen carry." I can't tell you how many times my wife and I have started to discuss crime trends (we used to attend crime watch meetings) and hear an officer outright say "Get a gun. Learn how to use it." (Even with them not knowing my own personal stance on the subject)
I've lived in this area for 20+ years now and I've never seen anyone carrying openly - aside from the little bit that I did myself.
Enjoy your time here and have fun at the club. I'm a member there as well - great facility.I called to check my ZIP CODE!....DY-NO-MITE!!!
