PA Hunting License Information

Although I am sixty, I also have a Hunters safety certificate from both Texas and took the course in Wyoming for teaching the course so I hope I don’t have to go through all that again. My youngest stepson is taking a job in Wexford, PA and he wants his mother and me to move in with him. Can anyone tell me about the firearms restrictions there in Pennsylvania? I’m an old time hunter and fisherman and don’t want to step on the laws toes. Thanks.

Big game is manual only......

PA hunting licenses are available online and have been for several years at the PGC website.
The lifetime license is available to residents of PA 65 and over for a one time fee of $70 (at last report) You are issued a card to present each year thereafter to the County Treasurer for a new license. It covers small game, turkey and antlered deer. All other licenses are extra; doe, bear, archery, etc.

I have no interest in hunting. Nice skills to have for a SHTF time and the shooting at moving targets that can hide sounds like fun but. But I have no interest in cleaning and gutting the catch. And I hate the taste of wild meat.

That said, hunting is part of the gun culture and if I want hunters to take more interest in protecting my shooting rights and my rights to carry I need to take an interest in theirs.

The world counts numbers. How many hunters are there? Only a handful then why should we listen to them? Small numbers translates to small number of voters so who cares about them? Some might also say if not many people are doing it then it must not be very much fun.

I was thinking about getting a hunting license just to bring up the numbers and urge others to do the same.

What are the draw backs?
Are there enough licenses for everyone or are they limited?
Will having a hunting license make for problems if I carry my handgun while backpacking? (that's the big one)

I'm seriously impressed, good post! If your not interested in gutting the prey, but really want to practice shooting/staying hidden, go for coyotes.

And of course most of the neighbors will be happy to be rid of the nasty things, too!

Hello hunting in a lineces provider a PA association. this is a bed work. When any one not a dangerous then a hunting are a bed habits......!

Does PA still require back tags like NY does? I thought I had read somewhere that PA dropped the back tag requirement.

Unless they amended the law it was signed into law 2 years ago that you were no longer required to display your hunting license on an outer garment. It was in the book that comes with your license. It will help to avoid lost licenses etc.

You definitely need to take the PA hunter safety course...if a game warden scans your license at their vehicle and your info does not have the course certification information...you are looking at a decent fine.

Ive been hunting for 20 years and took the course again...the basics are the same but you may just learn something...I did!
