What's the employer info. for on the ROS?
I was wondering what the section that asks for employer information is for on the handgun record of sale form. It asks for your employer's name, address, phone number. I have a home in PA but I work in NYC. In NYC people assume all gun owners are gangsters or mentally ill. I know the ROS form goes into a database with the PSP. Does the PSP or anyone actually call your employer to ask questions? what's the employer information for?

It's probably so PSP can warn your employer that you have a gun and plan on carrying it.

Seeing as how one's employment status or employer can change multiple times in a relatively short timeframe, is one's employer or employment status even relevant to the purchase?
Better to write to the people who created the form and ask that question.

Re: What's the employer info. for on the ROS?
Interesting question. Employer information is certainly NOT amongst the statutorily mandated info:
18 Pa CS 6111(b)(1)
...
The application/record of sale shall include the name, address, birthdate, gender, race, physical description and Social Security number of the purchaser or transferee, the date of the application and the caliber, length of barrel, make, model and manufacturer's number of the firearm to be purchased or transferred.
Would be an interesting question for the PSP. The last contact I had with the Director, Firearms Division was in 2008, Lt Lokhaiser, 717-772-1897. Might start at that phone #.
Or the next higher office:
Bureau of Records and Identification
1800 Elmerton Avenue
Harrisburg, PA 17110
Telephone: (717) 783-5592

I would guess that in the past, sheriff(s) have pointed out that since they are responsible for investigating the applicant, it would be helpful to be able to speak to an employer. IF that is how it happened, it would fall within the law, would it not?

The employer info is part of the registration process that is being illegally employed through ROS. If they know where you live and where you work they know where to go to pick up your gun when they are banned. This is so effing illegal and they laugh right in our faces.

Just write in "unemployed". A lot of us here fit the bill anyway.....
You don't have enough guns untill you don't know how many you have.

Re: What's the employer info. for on the ROS?
I have no problem putting my employer on the form in practice. I agree it is one of those unnecessary pieces of information .gov likes to collect from us peons. However, my boss and I talk firearms all the time. I even sold him a pistol a year or so ago. Others who work with us joke that if shit goes down they hope either he or I am around...they all know we both carry. He would be right there by my side if the jack booted thugs ever came collecting. He was one of my references on my LTCF application.
With that said, I have an occasion to sell stuff on eBay. Maybe for my next purchase, I'll list "Self-employed EBay seller" with my home address. It would be lying. They don't ask for your main employer.

Self employed! Every single one of us, whether we work for a company, government, or are unemployed , ARE self-employed! Who are you working for? Unless you are a complete idiot, you are working for you and your family! Sure, it might say " acme widgets, inc." on the paycheck, but you are self-employed!
